Chapter Twenty Seven - Man Who Can't Be Moved.
'That was stupid, so very stupid!' Magnus ranted over and over in his head as he headed towards the New York Institute. 'Kissing Caleb in front of Alec. I have got to find a way of making it up to him. Even if he doesn't want me back.' He climbed the stone steps and knocked on the door, 'I've hurt him. I definitely take after my father!' Magnus told himself as the sound of footsteps reached the door on the inside. The door swung open revealing Jace stood in the doorway, the minute he spotted Magnus he attempted to shut the door but Magnus got there first, sending blue sparks flying from his hands and an invisible field stopped the door from shutting. "What do you want?" Jace demanded. Magnus ignored him, "Where's Alec?"
Jace tutted, glaring at Magnus, "He doesn't want to talk to you now go away!"

"I'm not leaving without talking to him. Alec? Alexander?!" Magnus yelled, Jace shoved him back a step, shutting the door to the Institute behind him, "You'd better get out of here while you still have the ability to walk Warlock. You hurt him badly and I don't take well to people hurting my Parabatai. So, scram back to your filthy apartment with your mangy cat and don't come back here! Stay out of Alec's life!" Jace snapped re-entering the Institute and slamming the door in Magnus's face. Jace sighed, leaning back against the wood with his eyes closed inhaling deeply. When he finally opened his eyes he could see Alec was sat on the top of the stairs, his head turned towards the door. He had seen and heard everything. Jace looked at him in a inquisitive manner, how long had Alec truthfully been sat there? "Since he started calling my name." Alec shrugged, trying to act like it didn't bother him but Jace could see it did, he could feel it. Just then Alec's mobile buzzed and he turned away from Jace to read the text and type his reply.

Magnus was still sat on the top step, winter was arriving faster than before, the cold air whipping his cheeks and numbing his hands as he typed a text on his mobile:

Magnus: I'm outside.

He pressed send and waited. Alec's reply buzzed through his phone:

Alec: Move on. You have him!

Magnus: No I don't. How do you expect me to move on when I'm still in love you? x

He sent the text and waited, Alec didn't reply. Magnus sighed and got to his feet, staring across the road he could see the coffee bar he'd visited with Alec once before on a cold winters' day like this. He hummed a tune under his breath, the lyrics floating into his head as he glanced down at the photo on his phone of himself and Alec:

'Going back to the corner where I first saw you,

Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I'm not gonna move,

Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand,

Saying, "If you see this girl can you tell her where I am?"

Some try to hand me money, they don't understand,

I'm not broke - I'm just a broken-hearted man,

I know it makes no sense but what else can I do?

How can I move on when I'm still in love with you?'

Magnus began to move across the street to the coffee bar, hurriedly applying a Glamour to hide his cat's eyes. The song continued in his head as he stood waiting to be allowed across the road:

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,

And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be,

Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,

And you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street,

So I'm not moving,

I'm not moving.'

The warmth and smell of the coffee bar hit Magnus like a slap to the face, warming his cheeks and hands. He ordered a coffee and sat at a table by the window where he could watch the Institute, the song in Magnus's head was playing over the radio and he sighed, listening to it play:

'And maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved,

Maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news,

And you'll come running to the corner,

'Cause you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved,

I'm the man who can't be moved.'

Magnus's phone finally buzzed, making him jump. He hurriedly went to read the text, knocking over his coffee in his haste to see what Alec had replied:

Alec: Give me time. We'll talk later. Magnus grinned, suddenly feeling happier than he had all day. He hurriedly typed back:

Magnus: Okay. Just tell me where and when. x

He paid for another coffee at the bar to replace the one he'd spilt, giving the girl behind the till a tip, she smiled, "Someone's very happy. Thank you."
"You bet I am." Magnus replied, picked up the coffee cup and left the bar to head home. As he stepped out into the cold again he glanced over at the Institute and could swear he saw Alec looking out of his bedroom window. Magnus fought down the urge to wave and headed down the street.
