Heart Strings Chapter Twenty One

‘What?’ I asked her as we glided along, loving how it sounded. Her laugh I mean, not the song, though the song was pretty good too.

‘It’s just, me and Sammie said to each other the last time we came, that every time we’ve come ice skating since this song has been released it’s been played.’

‘Really?!’ My eyebrows rose, amused.

‘Yup,’ she said before grinning and subconsciously squeezing my hand harder as she began to sing, ‘tonight’s gonna be a good night, that tonight’s gonna be a good, good, night-’

And pretty soon I joined. Tonight may have been good for Sephy, but where I was just then, holding her hand and skating with her was giving me one of the greatest high’s I’d ever felt before.

When we’d gone around again, we were skating passed Adam when he reached out a hand to Sephy.

‘Skate with me?’ he asked, having to raise his voice over the music and the screams of others.

Sephy looked at me, and I nodded slightly, and, a bit unwillingly, let go of her hand. As I did so, an inexperienced father suddenly hurtled in between me and Sephy, yelling blue murder before landing smashing against a barrier.   

The force that he’d zoomed past us by sent me spinning around in a circle. Sephy shouted my name and tried to grab my hand but only ended up being tangled into me as I went crashing down.

I winced as my shirt rode up and my bare skin touched the cold ice then chocked out as Sephy landed on top of me.

‘Oh my God,’ she laughed, trying to get up only to fall back down again, ‘sorry!’

‘It’s okay,’ I blushed as her hand landed awkwardly on my crotch.

People had started giving us a wide berth not wanting to fall over us too and once again Ian saw me and laughed, followed by Tony and Sam. This time I flipped them off.

Adam offered Sephy his hand again and she accepted it. After she’d got up carefully, Sephy reached down and pulled me up. As I got up, I almost fell again and had to steady myself by holding her waist and pulling her closer to me. Our eyes locked for a moment and we both smiled softly at each other before Adam tapped Sephy’s shoulder.

‘Let’s go,’ he said.

‘Sure,’ Sephy turned to him slowly and then back to me, ‘be careful…’

I nodded and watched them go before attempting to start skating again. Mel skated past and took my hand as she went and we skated together. Mel was the worst at skating out of all the girls therefore only slightly better than I was.

My heart was beating unevenly as I thought of Sephy when she’d fallen on me.

Yikes.  

What was wrong with me? I wasn’t a virgin… Oh..

By the time we had to get off the ice, my thighs were aching and my back and arms were still freezing, a short sleeved T-Shirt was not the right thing to wear for such an activity. I wasn’t sure I’d have been able to continue anyway.

We made our way outside after stacking up on chocolates and drinks from the vending machines provided and sat on some grass behind the building in an oddly shaped circle.

 I was sat by Tabby and David. Sephy was directly in front of me, Aimee and Sammie next to her.

We’d all put the food we bought in the middle of the circle so anyone could eat anything they wanted. It was an awesome atmosphere and everyone talked to everyone about anything and everything. Every now and then, me and Sephy would catch each other’s eye and smile then she would always look away first and strike up a conversation with someone, a secret smile on her face which had me bracing myself each time.

Pervert.

After ten minutes Adam, who was sat next to Tabby, suddenly stood up muttering that he needed the toilet.

Sephy looked at him, slightly alarmed as he walked across the circle and past her, and then glanced at David.

David winced and his face paled as he watched Adam disappear around the corner before standing up and heading towards him, mumbling that he needed the toilet too.

Seeing this, I gazed down and examined the grass, and tugged at it, ripping it out of the soil. Doubts formed in my head again. Was she getting David to tell Adam to back off? That she was with him now..?

For a moment I glanced up at Sephy, her lips were twisted but when she noticed I was looking she smiled.

I turned away to Sam who had been sitting next to David and started congratulating him on how good he was at skating, pretending I hadn’t seen.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to participate in her games anymore.
