The hardest thing to do is watch the one you love, love someone else

- Nathan P.O.V -

I felt like turning back, but I kept my feet walking in a straight line, ploughing further and further away.

I liked Sephy. That I knew now.

Shivering, I watched my breath escape my mouth in a thin white fog. The sun was going down, taking the temperature with it.

It was so strange when she asked me all that stuff about the liking someone thing. I had felt, happy, that she'd asked me that, trusted me with that question. But I had kind of deflated when that Nick guy turned up and realised she was talking about him.

He didn't like me, that was definite. He was most probably jealous even though he had no reason to be. Sephy must 'love' him (and if not, like very, very much,) if what she'd said in detention was anything to go by. But just then on the swings... Was she trying to say things weren't working?

I shook myself inwardly -get real, Nathan. This is just because you haven't been with a girl in ages. And that was probably true. But there was still something different about Sephy.

I was now two streets away from the park and about ten minutes away from my house. Already I was tired. I couldn't wait to go home and lie in my bed.

No, even better, I couldn't wait for my dad to get me a car.

The situation with my parents was strange. Basically? My mother, if that was what she was, was a woman on a mission to destroy my life and the life of others, whilst my father was just an irresponsible guy who wanted fun. They split up about two and a half years ago after he found out that she had been cheating on him. Which showed how much you could not trust her as she was always telling him how pathetic he was and how he was always cheating on her and going out drinking. It was true that he went out quite often to drink with his mates, but whenever he did, she was bringing some guy home, drinking with him and worse.

My dad moved to a massive house in Bournemouth and began to earn a lot more money than he'd ever earned when he was around my mum, leaving me with her up in Guildford. About a year ago dad found some young blonde lady called Rosie, who he claimed had changed him for the better, and they had their wedding six months ago. Obviously mum didn't speak to me for about a month after I went to it, but I preferred it that way, if I was honest. My grandparents on my father’s side lived in Bournemouth, along with my dad's younger brother, Gary, wife and 15 year old daughter, Juliet, or Jewel as I call her, who is my best friend and cousin.

Me and Jewel talk about everything. There is almost nothing I know, that she doesn't, and right then, there was nothing I wanted more than to talk to her.

Sliding my phone out of my pocket, I began typing her number in, knowing it off by heart. For a few seconds the dialling tone sounded.

'Hello there! This is the line of Jewel, Jew, Lili, Julie or Juliet King, depending on what you call me... [Laughter.] The beep-y thing is going to go in a sec so please lea-'

Beep.

I sighed. She was a bit of a party animal and wasn't always available when I felt like talking.

I pushed my phone back into my pocket and took bigger strides, making my way home.

'Nathan!'

I turned around to see Sephy running towards me looking slightly out of breath.
