Heart Strings Chapter Ten

Start from the beginning

His deep blue eyes were centimetres away and seemed to be drawing nearer and nearer, making me forget what an absolutely cheesy thing that was to say.

My eyes dragged themselves away with all the power they could muster, only to be trapped by his lips, which were, as usual, drawn in a simple smile.

Oop. Sweet baby Jesus in heaven. What had I done to deserve this?!

After what seemed like an age of wide-eyed staring and indeed torture, we realised simultaneously that everyone else was pretty quiet and looking at us.

I could feel my skin burning up, 'Yes, marvellous staring match we had there, Nathan!' I blurted.

'Yeah... You win. Damn it,.' he replied slowly. Nathan looked at me and then at everyone else, cheeks slightly pink, if I do say so myself. There are some things you never thought you'd see....

'...Right. So are we going or what?' Tony asked looking at Nathan with a mixture of amusement and confusion on his features. Nathan flipped him off jokily and smiled looking a bit out of it.

'Yes. Right. Let’s go.'

Ten minutes later and we were at Maggie's, a local restaurant that, in my opinion, made the best bacon rolls and milkshakes in the whole world. It was really cosy too. Everywhere you looked there were splashes of pink, orange and yellow plus sweet little black and white photos of beautiful random things that just made you want to stand and stare with a bacon roll in your hand for the rest of your life. The music was always good there too, and sometimes there were even live performances. Another reason to love it.

'Okay everyone, I think we should get some seats-' Nathan was interrupted by a pretty blonde waitress who grinned at him in a way I did not like the look of. Her teeth, dare I say it, were better than Tabby and Adam's! It wasn't possible!

'Would you like a table?' she asked, the question pointedly aimed at Nathan. I heard one of the boys cough. I'm sure it was Sam. (The Horn boys seemed to have nasty colds...)

'Yes please. A table for ten, if possible...' He answered, giving her a genuine smile back. 'But don't worry if it's too much of a fuss-'

I frowned. Too much of a fuss? It’s not too much of a fuss! She bloody worked there, if we wanted to make a fuss she should answer to it with a bloody wide smile on her face and stop looking at Nathan! The cow…

She let out a high-pitched giggle. 'Oh no problem! I'll just have two pushed together for you guys!' She offered, still focusing on Nathan.

Was it just me, or did her chest plunge forward as she said the word “pushed”?!

'Thank you!' he nodded with a smile. She winked flirtatiously before turning around and bouncing off, hair flickety flicking through the none existent breeze.

I was shocked to turn around and find that all the boys, excepting my dear Adam of course who only had eyes for men, watching as she stalked away. Meh. Boys are such creeps sometimes.

When I turned to Adam though, he was looking at me with an OH-MY-GAWD-WHAT-A-SNAKE-GIRL face on. Oh yes. That is why I love my Adam.

Soon enough, we were seated around two tables which had been “pushed” together as promised by Snake Girl herself (who had fluttered her eyelashes at Nathan like she wanted a pat on the head or something,) and were all looking at the menus.

Everyone gave their orders, through Nathan, and off she trotted. For once, I hoped the meals wouldn't arrive for a long time. Or maybe, if I was lucky, never would...

'Whoa! Nathan! Someone has a date tonight!' Tony said slyly and ever so quietly. Nathan looked up at him, confused.

'Who? Me?' At this, Ian, Sam and Tony burst out laughing whilst David just looked amused. The girls looked up and I narrowed my eyes. I was beginning to think he wasn't actually joking when he said that he didn't realise that many girls fell for him....

'I bet you £5 you'll have her number before we leave...' Sam began before he was silenced by an impressive death glare from Nathan. 'Sorry?' he grinned.

'Whatever,' Nathan sighed, 'can we get on with the matter at hand please?' I had to say, I was quite impressed with his ‘buisness’ voice. Everyone nodded in agreement and so we began. Before long though, an argument had broken out.

'It's our gig anyway,' Mel was saying, 'I think we should get most of the money!'

'But we're joining you, if you want most of the money, do it on your own,' Sam retorted before letting out a long winded burp. Literally. Long winded.

I was beginning to get the feeling that Sam was the 'loud one' in the band.

Mel looked to me for support next. I winced. 'To be honest Mel, I think I agree with Sam.' I caught Nathan looking at me and diverted my eyes before I forgot what I was going to say. 'We should share it equally. It's pretty awesome that they are playing with us in the first place, don't you think?'

'But what happens if it can't be split equally?' she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

'We...' I looked around the table for support. Adam smiled his Special Adam Smile, and a light bulb flickered above my head, 'we give it to Adam.' Now he looked surprised, but Mel and the girls were satisfied.

'Uh,' Ian spoke up, 'no offence or anything, but what do you do...Adam..? Are you a manager or something?'

'Nope, he's our personal camera guy!' Tabby told him.

'Oh! That's cool!' Nathan said, turning to Adam, 'are you going to take some photos at this coming gig?'

'Yup!' Adam grinned. 'Want some?'

'Yeah! That'd be great! Thanks.''

'Sure, no problem.'

We all lapsed into another awkward silence before beginning to talk to our own groups.

Before long though, our food had arrived on the hands of our very own snake-girl. I swear her orange and white uniformed mini skirt had become two inches minier.

Of course, the boy’s eyes flew to her legs. It had to be said, her thighs were strangely perfect, and her knees! They were the un-knobliest things I'd ever seen! I mean, like, mine were just…and hers were just-

'Sephy,' Aimee whispered to me.

'Yeah?'

'Why are you staring at the waitresses legs?'

'She is the sluttiest person I know!'

'You don't know many people in school then!' Aimee laughed softly.

'No joke Aimee! Look at her skirt! She's rolled it up!' I complained. Aimee looked up, amused, at snake-girl's skirt.

'You realise we roll our school skirts up, don't you?'

'...Yeah... But it's different! She's trying to seduce the boys like...like...a snake or something.'

At this, Aimee only laughed.

Our 'waitress' got to me with my bacon roll, chips and milkshake and dropped it with a clatter on my table. I looked up at her shocked, after all, it was rude to customers to be so shitty at your job. Her eyes were narrowed down at me.

'Oops!' she whispered, before walking off. I was stunned. So she did hate me! Why? What had I done? It's not like she actually heard everything I'd said... Or did she? That would just be embarrassing...

Crazy ears snake-girl...

'Crazy what?' Adam asked from beside me.

Oh my-
