They turned around as we were mid-laugh. We all looked at each other momentarily.
Oop. Awkward.
Me and Aimee spun our heads away and stared at each other.
‘Oh. My. God.’ I groaned.
‘Oops?’ she giggled not really caring at all.
Gah… ‘Are they still looking?’ I whispered to her.
‘I don’t know!’ she hissed back.
Sigh. If you want something done, you really do have to do it yourself... I breathed in and turned my head towards the boys slowly.
Nathan was right behind us.
‘Hello there,’ he said simply, a small smile on his face as usual, just as Mrs. McLeod stalked into the classroom, looking utterly flustered and stressed.
‘Quickly everyone! To your seats!! Now, we are late!’ You mean you are late.
Nathan laughed. Ugh, I said that out loud again. I had a serious problem which I was sure would get me into trouble someday.
‘See you Aimee,’ I sighed regretfully, getting up and walking back to my seat, Nathan at my heels.
Sitting once again in our seats, it was like Déjà vu. There was Nathan, staring at me with a strange look on his face and me getting nervous, therefore slightly cranky.
This time though, I was forcing myself not to look at him. Instead I concentrated on Mrs. MacLeod's whiny voice calling out people’s names.
Nope. I was not going to look at him and get distracted once again.
‘Sephy...’ I heard from my left. I turned to face Nathan reluctantly. ‘How are you?’
‘That is so random. What kind of question is that?’ He lifted an eyebrow and cocked his head to the side.
‘Hmm. An I’m-wondering-how-you-are kind of question. Are you going to answer?’
‘Huh, fine. I’m okay,’ I replied, annoyed to have looked at him in the first place.
'Good. Is your leg okay too?'
'Yes.' Silence.
‘Are you going to ask how I am?’
‘Why would I?’
‘Because you want to know?’
‘Wrong. Because it is polite to do so.’
‘Fine.’
‘Fine.’
‘Fine.’
‘How are you?’
‘I’m great. Now, ask me why.’
‘Now that I won’t do.’
‘Oh come on, you might as well now...’
‘Persephone!!’ Mrs. McLeod's voice rang out so loud in my ears that I squealed just a bit. She was practically digging a hole into me with her laser eyes. Scary woman. ‘Are you here?!’ Well duh.
‘Yes Mrs. MacLeod, I am here,’ I voiced.
‘Right. Nathan King...’
‘Here.’ And so the register continued. I glared at Nathan, he was grinning back. Ugh....
‘So where were we?’ he began.
‘Nowhere. We were nowhere, okay?’ I hissed.
‘Wow. Déjà vu.’ I glowered at him. So far, as long as I’d known Nathan, his range of facial expressions seemed to only including smiling. And smirking. But smirking is a smile for the oh-so-up-themselves, so basically he only ever smiled. Which was scary is you asked me. Like a scary smiley dwarf. Excepting the fact that he was taller than me...
