Heart Strings Chapter Four

Start from the beginning

‘Right, I guess I’ll be going then...’ Nathan sighed, mock sadly, and turned to go.

‘Hey, wait up!’ Sammie called to him as she grabbed onto his arm. ‘Don’t I get a hug?’ Nathan smiled.

‘Of course you do!’ Damn Sammie and her overly friendly self! I thought as they hugged eagerly. ‘Hey, do I get one from you too Sephy?’ Nathan asked as he and Sammie parted. I snuck a subtle glance at Nick. He looked bored and slightly annoyed but looked away as soon I looked at him. ‘I’ll be lonely...’

I didn’t dare look at my poor boyfriend again. ‘Oh go on then...’ I huffed, trying as hard as I could not to smile as Nathan picked me up in a huge bear hug.

I failed.

‘There we are! That wasn’t so hard was it?’ Nathan insisted.

‘Meh.,’ I grumbled.

‘See you guys tomorrow then! Bye Sephy, Sammie...Nick. See you, oh, and Sephy,’ he looked down at me. My lip quivered involuntarily. ‘I think it’s a yes.’

And he was gone. Gah...

‘Why are you smiling Sephy?’ Nick turned to me, his face a picture of perfect, innocent confusion.

‘Yeah, your lips have gone all smiley in a way I never knew was possible.’ Sammie explained unhelpfully.

‘I don’t know. I feel...’ Happy. I didn’t dare say the last word in front of Nick. I mean, I wasn’t happy because of Nathan, I was happy because Nathan agreed to the band thing. Of course. But Nick might not know that.

‘Happy?’ Sammie intervened again. I frowned.

‘No. Stop being stupid, woman. Now let’s go.’ I grabbed hold of Nick’s reluctant hand and we made our way to our bus stop. ♥

The rest of the day was interesting. It turned out Nathan was with me in Chemistry. Sammie and Tabby were too, and they were apparently shocked to find that me and Nathan seemed pretty ‘tight’ as they didn’t fail to text to me during the tear-worthy lesson. I texted to explain the embarrassing occurrence in English. They, in turn, laughed their heads off, which meant Mr. Adams came to explore. This resulted in my phone being taken away until the end of school.

Dammit.

As soon as the bell rang marking the end of maths (another boring lesson as Adam was ill and he was my only friend in maths,) and the day, chairs scraped back and everyone began talking at the same time. I made my way straight to the reception to collect my phone.

‘There you are, my dear baby,’ Sammie hollered, dancing up to me just as I turned from the office. ‘Got your mobile back?’

‘Yup. I was just about to text you to meet me at here actually.’

‘Well, I thought you’d be here so I came to look for you. Right. Off we go to the buses then m’dear!’ She said, hooking her arms with mine.

‘Hold up, I think Nick said he wanted to meet me at the gates today.’ I paused, sending a quick text to confirm.

‘Sephy, hey,’ Nathan seemed to say out of nowhere. Me and Sammie turned around just in time to see him changing direction towards us. ‘What’s up?’

‘Home is what is up. What’s up with you?’ I asked him. I saw Sammie looked at me from the corner of my eye, a devious smile on her face.

Damn her.
