Heart Strings Chapter Three

Start from the beginning

‘A-hem! Mr. King, would you like to explain why you were late to my lesson?’

‘Sorry Sir., but sometimes, when a guy’s got to go, a guy’s got to go! You know?’ he grinned wolfishly, and I swear I saw a deep blue eye twinkle. Nah. Probably not.

Mr. Watson narrowed his eyes and turned stiffly to the rest of the laughing class. ‘Don’t try me, boy,’ he grumbled. Hmm. Very Villain – like Sir! Good on you!

Nathan shrugged and looked around, seemed to spot me and debate with himself before coming to settle in the seat beside me.

‘Why are you sitting here?’ I hissed at him, boiling with anger. Damn Sammie.

‘Because I want to,’ he said calmly in reply.

‘Do you always get what you want?’ I asked him, swivelling an accusing glance at him.

He laughed uproariously –though I’ve no idea why,- ‘no, I don’t!’

‘Nathan King! Silence!’ Mr. Watson bellowed.

Nathan chuckled under his breath. ‘You are kinda funny,’ he whispered. 'You know that?' I glared at him, trying to read whether he was serious or not but averted my eyes when he winked. What a sleaze.

For ten more minutes the lesson rolled on. Boredom was eating me up like an Electric Eel in an Eating Contest. I considered doodling, but I had more important things to do with my time. I ripped paper from my English book as quietly as I could manage and began writing.

Me:   Why were you really late? S.

Nathan:   Toilet/talking to Ian about what you said. Band wise.

Me:   I didn’t say anything! S.

Nathan:   You were meant to. What’s your name anyway? I thought it was Persephone. What’s the ‘S’ for?

Me:   Sephy. Why?

Nathan:   Oh! Of course. Understood. And because.

Me:   Okay... You sound like a dork. S.

Nathan:   Thank you. Do you want a tic tac? And you really don’t have to do that weird ‘S’ thing anymore. You are the only person I’m writing to… Sephy…

Me:   Yeah. Okay.

Nathan reached a hand over. I cupped my hands under and watched green tictacs fall into my hands as he flung orange ones down his throat discretely.

‘Um…Why are mine all green?’ Mr. Watson’s piercing eyes glared at me unflinchingly.

‘Silence Miss Kingston, unless you would like me to move you to a different seat.’

‘I apologise Mr. Watson. It was rude of me to speak over you as I did. Would you ever forgive me?’ I fluttered my lashes at him innocently. Murmurs floated in the classroom. I received a sharp glare in return to my kind gesture.

I glanced over at Nathan. He was grinning and writing furiously.

Nathan:   Lol! And because I don’t like the green ones much.

Me:   OMGosh, you are not serious!? It’s the orange ones I detest. And why don’t you just buy the only white packets?
