Thankyou Cameron! :)
~~~~~~
What is your name?
Cameron Cook
How old are you?
22
What inspired you to write your first book?
An assignment for a summer school class after I proceeded to fail English two semesters in a row in 10th grade. Teacher asked us to write a children's story and mine never stopped.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Orson Scott Card - I liked the twist and turns, and how intelligent some of his characters are - often getting into wars of wits and back stabbing. I also actually kind of enjoy the philosophical and religious arguments often slipped into his books.
What is your favourite theme/genre to write about?
Supernatural or Paranormal, I love writing about extraordinary people but I also like to make these people have many flaws - they are often greedy, careless, and dangerous - the powers don't lead them to good but often go to their heads and cause mass destruction.
Do you see writing as a career?
I would love to, but the odds of making it one are so very small it's really hard to say. At the least with editing as a planned career writing will somehow always be in my life.
If you could work with any author who would it be?
David Weber - simply because I've read his Hell's Gate series and it has similar themes, the uncertainty of who's good and who's bad.
Do you use real-life facts based on true stories?
No. I intentionally use other worlds or some type of future so I can invent fact. Only facts I used would be a tiny bit of history in The Human Xenocide but it hardly matters.
Did you ever think you'd be, where you are right now?
No, back in high school I was math crazy, I wanted to go into something business related and often struggled in English and despised anything to do with writing. then I hit AP Calc and realized I had an even worse enemy than writing. My entire life twisted and I took English from my worst to my best subject, getting a Bachelors degree in it (with a 3.7 GPA in my upper division English) have edited two published books and have popularity on my own writing.
What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing?
What I do often with a lot of stories and write what comes to mind, force yourself to not stop until ten or twenty minutes later, just keep writing and don't go back to edit or fix what you've written. Maybe it all was useless but maybe at the same time you just found some twist or great method of progression in your writing. I also often don't write in order. Write out scenes that interest you that you want to include, fill in the blanks later. you don't need to write a book from start to finish. Want a love scene add it in - want them to get into a fight later on write it now - planning someone's death, write that part - you really never know what will come out.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?
yes, and above. my writers block is NEVER to write new content, but to rewrite or edit, its a lot of work and I often fail to do it. I also had long period of no writing after severe issues (computer crash that last 10,000 words, losing entire chapters cause I cut instead of copied to a site like wattpad and then deleted the story off that site ect ect).
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Keep writing, never stop, and SEARCH for negative criticism. you may hate someone for saying you suck, your writing suck and there are X, X, X, X, X, X, X, and X problems with it - but in reality this will only make you a stronger writer. this is actually my job (insulting people's writing) and I get paid by the person I'm "insulting" to do it. search these assholes out on wattpad and get them to look at you're stuff - you'd never know how much they'd help you improve - they are not really bad guys, just trying to help even if it is rude.
Anything fun about yourself you want your fans to know?
I have an edited book published, look up Supernature by Henry Lyons - my name is listed as editor on amazon.
How would you describe yourself?
I'm very detail oriented and though I forget things fast when it comes to life, such as phrases, names of actors in films (screen names), I take months to forget anything of what I read - it's what makes me such a strong editor. I just knew when something is amiss. I'm often cocky and rude when it comes to fixing something but generally have good intentions. I'm just a guy that hopes I can make a living doing what I love instead of making a wage on a job I hate.
