What is your name?

Kimberly Joy Villanueva

How old are you?

20 year old

What inspired you to write your first book?

The initial chapter of my first story (Accidentally in Love) happened in real life. For weeks, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Then I decided that maybe writing it would give me a piece of mind. Little did I know that it would be the start of my dream.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I have many favorite authors. If I list all of them, it'll take me an hour to finish. I'll just tell you one of my favorites: Cassandra Clare.

I admire her. She's simply amazing! It's like, she breathes life to her characters. And she doesn't hesitate at killing them. Her words, sentences, are purely magnificent! I like the way she writes, especially about the mysteries revolving around her novels and the way she puts romance in unexpected situations.

What is your favourite theme/genre to write about?

Romance, Humor, Teen Fiction, Fantasy

Do you see writing as a career?

Yes, I can see writing as a career. Famous authors are full time writers. They don't have to look for another job because their novels are already well-known.

For me, aside from writing, I want to work as well. I'd like to have another career apart from writing.

If you could work with any author who would it be?

John Green is a genius. I'd like to have a chance to write with him. His novels are epic! The Fault in Our Stars is one of the best books I've read so far.

Do you use real-life facts based on true stories?

I think using facts based in true events for your story is normal. I do that. It's much more believable and genuine when it really happened in real life.

Did you ever think you'd be, where you are right now?

I didn't think I'd be where I am right now. I didn't even imagine it. My dream was only to have readers. I didn't expect to have thousands! Before, when I was looking at the Popular list, I couldn't help but think those writers with their stories in the list were lucky. When it happened to me, I couldn't believe it! Especially when one of my stories reached million of reads. It's a huge blessing. God's grace.

What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing?

When you don't have any ideas to write anymore, I suggest that you read. Remember, before you became a writer, you were a reader first? Reading will open your mind to fresh image & concept. Try doing other things as well- like going to different places, doing the dishes, talking to strangers, visiting museums.

You can write your experiences then, and it'll give you ideas for a new story/chapter.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?

When you suffer from writer's block, listen to music. Free your mind from any pressure and stress. Imagine different scenarios. Don't let anything hinder you from writing. Grab your pen and your notebook and start writing whatever is in your mind.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write what's in your heart. Turn negative feedback into constructive criticism. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it! Don't give up! Make dreams & do anything to achieve them. Everyone starts from scratch; so if you don't have readers, don't stop writing. Sooner or later, people will notice you. Besides, you have to know what is the real reason why you write. Is it only to be popular? Or perhaps you want to share something?

Check your heart. Check your motives. If you do it for selfish reasons, you'll probably get tired and disappointed when nobody appreciates your work. 

Anything fun about yourself you want your fans to know?

When I laugh, people look at me weirdly. My friends said that its because it's unusual. They told me it sounded like a record. They even make hand gestures! In short, they laugh at me when I laugh!

There are times when I smile even though I'm alone, especially when I remember a sweet or amusing memory.

How would you describe yourself?

Sometimes I stare off into space and I forget that I'm not alone. My friends would talk to me but I'm in my own little world, and it takes time to bring me back to the present.

I'm pretty optimistic, always trying to look at the bright side of life. When I want something, I will do anything to achieve it.

I have faith in God, and I fully depend on Him. That's why I'm not afraid to try new things and chase after my dreams. I believe that nothing is impossible as long as you pray and devote yourself in God.

I'm a book lover. It's so easy to fall in love with fictional characters! Maybe that's the reason why it's hard in real life. When I read, it's as if I'm inside the book, you wouldn't understand if you haven't experienced it.

I like going to bookstores. The smell of books - old, new, the papers, the ink- it's like home.
