Song of the day is... Pon de Replay by Rihanna
Thankyou Madeline :)

What is your name?
Madeline Sloane
How old are you?
I'm 53, and I wish that was in Dog Years.
What inspired you to write your first book?
My first book was non-fiction history and it was a monumental step for me. I co-authored it with my husband, proving we could work on a creative, collaborative project.
Then I promptly dumped him as writing partner, slammed out some more non-fiction, then moved to fiction.
My inspiration for fiction was the success of my previous works. I always worried I wasn't creative enough for fiction. Writing professionally means sitting down and doing it, not thinking and worrying and whining about it.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Harper Lee of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is my favorite fiction author. I love the honesty and the courage it took to create such an enduring story.
My favorite non-fiction author is Rachel Carson, who also wrote with honesty and courage, and probably saved the planet with her book "Silent Spring." She's a poetical scientist.
What is your favourite theme/genre to write about?
My favorite genre to write is contemporary romance. I love a good love story, so why not write them?
Do you see writing as a career?
Writing is my primary career and has been for decades. I also teach at a local college.
If you could work with any author who would it be?
Jules Verne. I know, he's dead, but you said "any." The writer had such vision and was dedicated to researching exciting new scientific discoveries.
Do you use real-life facts based on true stories?
Not often. I rely upon dreams and fantasies. Sometimes, I use real people and real incidents within my stories, but not as the plot.

Did you ever think you'd be, where you are right now?
Yes. I decided early that I would be a writer. I've been writing since junior high. I write something, anything, everyday.
What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing?
Take a nap. Look to your sub-conscious for tips and ideas. There's a wealth of memories in your dreams, so use them.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?
No. I suffer from writer's guilt. I'm always worried that I should be doing something else to make money, such as marketing my books, building websites, editing newspapers or teaching.
I can write; I just need to give myself permission to do it.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Write everyday to keep in practice. Always use proper grammar and punctuation, even in your mobile texts or emails. It counts. Read How-To books on writing and editing.
Edit, edit and then edit some more. Your words aren't gold, so don't be afraid to throw some away.
Anything fun about yourself you want your fans to know?
I'm a professional archaeologist, also. It's a fun gig.
How would you describe yourself?
A reclusive worry wart. Then there's my positive side: smart, funny and loyal.
