What is your name?

Tricia Fleming

How old are you?

25 turning 26 in July

What inspired you to write your first book?

My first story was written off site, and was inspired by the many amazing authors I’ve read over the years. Conversations I’ve had with my best friend as we grew up, a whole host of things. I’ve been writing since I was very little so I don’t remember what inspired me to first start, though I suspect I can lay that at my mom and dad always being supportive of my creative little self :P

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

My favorite author to this day is David Eddings. I love his Elenian series and re-read it every so often. He worked with his wife a lot (she goes unaccredited until later in his career), and the stories have a touch of believable fantasy to them and you really cared about all of the characters by the end of it. I didn’t care WHAT they were doing as long as I got to read about it.

What is your favourite theme/genre to write about?

I don’t have a favourite because I write to challenge myself to get better. So I’ll pick topics I don’t like or think I am bad in and see if I can put my own spin on it. Some for themes, I try not to repeat the same concept too much because then I find that the stories all end up the same, with just different character names.

Do you see writing as a career?

I would love to write full time and make enough to support myself with it. I do intend to try publishing several books and am working on a few I’ll be taking online to sell as ebooks. Hope the extra income helps.

If you could work with any author who would it be?

I am going to be doing a collaboration with MommyMagic sometime in the future. She was the first author I found on this site where I HAD to read everything she had, just because it was so different. There was depth and maturity to her work. Off this site I have no clue who I would like to work with. There are so many great unknown minds out there that if I am ever blessed enough to become famous, I would love to help bring into the spotlight too, because I think literacy should be promoted. And the best way to do that is to write stories that people want to read.

Do you use real-life facts based on true stories?

In some of my works, the stories have experiences I have personally encountered. For example, Gideon in Camp Darkness is based on myself and experiences I had throughout my life and the experiences I heard from my friends and others who spoke to me. It made it surprisingly hard to write, but the readers really connected with the characters and were pulled into the mysteries surrounding each one. I learned from writing it.

But other stories, such as Broken Kings, I have had no experience whatsoever with. I just try to make it as real and believable as possible. And true to the characters I’ve created. With The Death of Time, I take the facts as recorded in myths and legends and use those as a template, changing details and adding facts as I feel I need to, to make a compelling story with multi-dimensional characters.
