He was looking at a far when I saw him on the shore. He was alone while holding his camera. We're here at the exclusive island developed by his family to celebrate their birthday.

Nagpasya akong samahan siya at tabihan siya. "Hey, it's your birthday tomorrow pero mukhang malungkot ka."

He smiled at me. I knew it better that his smile is a forced one. "Wala lang. Hindi ko naman kasi birthday bukas. It felt like it's not my special day."

"Ikaw talaga. Puro ka kalokohan. It's your birthday tomorrow." Napasulyap ako sa wristwatch ko and saw that it's already past midnight. "Oh, it's your birthday. Happy birthday Tanner."

His force smile remained on his face, "thanks but my birthday is over."

Oh god! He was serious when he told me that it wasn't his birthday! I thought he was just being ridiculous when he told me that. Totally panicking, I dropped Shekainah's call without any further notice.

But I wonder why he never told me about it. Alam kong napakasimpleng bagay lang naman niyon pero hindi ko maiwasang maisip kung kinailangan niyang itago ang simpleng katotohanang iyon.

Setting aside the questions inside my head, sinilip ko ang relo ko. The day is almost over. Wala pa akong naihahanda para sa kanya. Anong gagawin ko?

Oh dear heavens! Help me!

When an idea popped out of my mind, agad akong tumayo mula sa kinauupuan ko at nilapitan si Mang Rene.

"Manong, lalabas lang po ako. May bibilhin lang po ako saglit. Babalik din po ako kaagad. Kapag bumalik po yung kasama ko at hinanap ako, pakisabi na lang po na babalik din po ako agad."

Hindi ko na nahintay pa ang sagot ni Mang Rene at tumakbo na ako palabas ng lugawan. I can remember a twenty four hour supermarket nearby that's why I ran heading there. Dala na rin siguro ng oras, wala masyadong tao sa loob ng store. Naging mabilis ang transaction ko sa cashier at pagkuha ko ng mga gagamitin ko. I didn't wasted any second longer and fixed everything on the table inside the store.

Magugustuhan niya kaya 'tong ihahanda ko sa kanya? This isn't as special as what the others had prepared for him but I hope he appreciates this.

Bakit nga ba kasi hindi ko sineryoso yung sinabi niya sa akin noon? I should've took his words seriously.

Bumalik ako sa lugawan hawak yung tray kung nasaan yung hinanda kong sorpresa para sa kanya. Pagkapasok ko sa loob ng lugawan, he was pacing back and forth in front of Mang Rene while talking to someone on the phone. He looked so stressed and worried about something.

Birthday na birthday niya, stressed na stressed siya.

"Ay, nandito na pala si Dilina eh! Kanina pa nag-aalala 'tong nobyo mo sa iyo dahil bigla ka na laang daw nawala ng walang pasabi." Sabi ni Mang Rene habang nakaturo sa direksyon ko kaya napalingon sa akin si Jionni.

His eyes widened when he saw me. His expression softened as I smiled at him.

"Happy birthday! Pasensya na kung ito lang naihanda ko sa'yo but I hope my efforts would make you feel how special you are to me." I said as I walked close to him while holding the tray which contained the cupcakes with candles on it. On the cupcakes, I spelled the words 'happy birthday' using a chocolate syrup.
