Nightmares

<~Chapter 24~>

"Is she ok?"

"No yesterday was her foster dads birthday, and her anxiety was bothering her, just don't say anything about it to her ok, I'm sorry she ignored you yesterday"

"Jay don't worry about it, I figured she didn't want to talk, she only talks to you mostly anyways"

"She has a hard time trusting people since everything that has happened to her, she trusts you, and me, but that's about it"

"I feel special being someone she trusts"

"Yeah you should, Jimmy and Pharrell and all of them too, but she doesn't even trust my mom fully yet"

"Really?"

"Yeah she trusts Adam Levine more than my mom" she laughed a little

"Just let her be for a while" she nodded

"She won't leave you alone though"

"She gets very clingy when she's having her anxiety" she nodded and walked out

"Jay everyone is here!" Jess yelled, I smoothed down my hair and went to get bri

I walked into her room, "hey you ready?" She nodded

"You look cute" she gave me a small smile, she had on a pair of leggings one of my flannels with a sweatshirt under it with a beanie.

"Can you try to smile for me?"

She gave me a big fake smile, "thanks" I said sarcastically

She giggled, "I got you to laugh!"

She rolled her eyes at me, I grabbed her and and led her out to the room. My mom and Jess's mom made all the food since we just got back to my house just for today and we had to be back on tour tomorrow.

We greeted everyone and introduced Bri to Jess's family.

Before I knew it was time to eat dinner. "Justin when did you adopt her again?" Jess's mom asked me

"It will be three years in February" I said putting my arm around Bri's chair. She looked up at me, and I could tell she was still having anxiety.

I leaned down and whispered into her ear, "it's ok, I'm right here"

She gave me a small nod, "so Bri what happened before Justin adopt-" jess was shaking her head at her mom but it was too late bri was up and running for her room.

"What did I" I sighed

"Her biological parents turned her over to her sister and her boyfriend when she was really young and they were both into drugs so the boyfriend disappeared and the mom dumped her at the orphan house and she believed that they were her parents until both of them died and her real parents saw her with me and got her back, which they did for seven months until I won her custody again, she also has anxiety and trust issues, I'm sorry it's not your fault it's just she gets anxiety from her parents" I said and went to go get Bri

She was in her room with her head in her hands. I sat next to her, "they didn't know baby" she nodded

"I know I just hate that they were apart of my life"

"I know I know baby, I do too, but they are all gone from your life now, I'll protect you from them"

"Thanks"

"For what?"

"Everything, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you, I would not be making my dreams come true without you"

"Yeah well you have made my life pretty great too, I can't imagine life without you by my side"

"Me either"

"You ok now?"

"My stomach doesn't feel good" i sighed

"Can at least come out and sit with me"

"On your lap?"

"Your too much"

"But daddy my stomach hurts"

"Come on let's go"

We walked back out and everyone was almost done eating.

I sat down and pulled Bri onto my lap. "Bri are you going to eat?" Jess asked, I shook my head at her and she gave a questioning look.

I put my arm around Bri and pointed to her stomach. Jess nodded and continued to eat.

We all finished and had dessert, before everyone left along with jess to spend more time with her parents.

I finished cleaning up and went to find Bri. She was in her room cuddled into tons of blankets and her comforter watching Netflix. I got under the covers with her.

We watched Netflix for a couple hours, and we talked about everything, it was nice just to talk to her without anyone else around.

I checked the time and it was midnight. "Happy birthday babes!" She looked down at my phone and back up at me

She wrapped her arms around me and kissed my cheek. "Thanks dad"
