The party continued long after our game finished but while the others drank themselves into oblivion, I couldn't help but watch as Ritchie practically glued himself to Darcie's side. For reasons that I can't explain, when Ritchie told her that he'd treat her like a Queen and Darcie blushed at his words, I felt anger bubbling up inside me.

It's completely irrational and it's happening more times that it should be, but those moments of annoyance I feel towards my friend for flirting with Darcie are fuelled by jealousy, even though I have nothing to be jealous about. I mean, it's not like I'm interested in Darcie, far from it; guys are more than welcome to her because I have a girlfriend that I love more than anything. It's probably just because if something should happen between the two it would mean that Darcie's attention is split between him and me. She's my Rally Girl and this season is the most important one I've ever played so I need as much support as I can get and I need my RG's focus to be entirely on me, no one else.

"Have you ever heard that saying?" An unfamiliar voice suddenly spoke, making me jump and splash my drink over my hand. I groaned as I felt the alcohol turn sticky against my skin but turned to look at the person who had spoken. Tayla, Ritchie's Rally Girl, was looking at me with mild amusement before she motioned her head to where Ritchie was stood at the makeshift bar, pouring another drink for Darcie who was stood at his side. "If looks could kill, is how it goes. You've been staring at them for the best part of the night but it looks like you want to murder them. Now, I had a really shitty football player last year so for my sake, could you not kill the only one I've liked so far?"

I shrugged my shoulders and decided to play dumb. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Sure you don't," Tayla laughed despite the fact that it sounded forced. She drains her red cup and starts to make her way over to the bar where Ritchie is still stood, chatting animatedly to Darcie. "You're only acting like this because your position as the center of Darcie Scott's world is being threatened. I would sympathize but after the way you and Mia have hurt her, I think you deserve some payback and Darcie deserves some happiness."

"And how have Mia and I hurt her?" I ask, narrowing my eyes and putting as much venom into my words as possible.

Tayla doesn't answer. Instead, she gives me a knowing look and walks away, heading back to where the real party is. I mull over Tayla's words as I continue to watch Darcie and Ritchie interact. She's talking animatedly, saying something that makes Ritchie laugh hysterically before he sobers up, grabs her hand in his and drags her down the pathway that leads towards the lake.

Instantly, the hair on my arms stands up. Why are they headed down there?
