Boyle heights was for Mexican food,
We enjoyed Mexican chicken very much,
Mexican heritage shrouded California's coast,
Where happiness mixed with pain.
Chinatown memories were bittersweet,
For signs of discrimination was still there,
Yet happiness as human beings,
Brought humanity much together.
African Americans crowned California,
Her coronation meant little to soothe the pain,
Ethnic tensions were still there,
Yet they decided to shine for America;
Little did they know how long it would last,
Neither did we,
But the years of tears and years of endeavour,
Would witness the end to racial discrepancies,
Even if not for now,
But soon for generations to come.
Now I look again at the majority White populace,
Perhaps racial identity is fake,
For we share a solid reason for unity,
Yet many would now distinguish it as stupidity;
It is time to move on as a whole new world,
And let the world decide which path of happiness we are heading.
