Edo Castle's Never Alone

A loner came to Edo Castle,

Thought of fighting a huge battle,

Uesugi clan said not yet,

"Wait, wait! Wait for my steed!"

A samurai drank wine,

Happily by the fireplace,

He ate fish when he dined,

With wasabi he enjoyed the fire in him.

Who was the loner?

Was he the owner of the castle?

Nope, he said,

For the Castle-palace kept him company,

Samurais and aristocrats kept him racy,

The loner was no longer alone,

Why did you say you still do not know who he was?

He was but a happy escort,

That helped to keep the security of the Japanese court.

The shogun Tokugawa knew,

No one was alone .
