i sit next to brendon on the bench outside of the school. my heart is beating, fast.
"tyler?" brendon says.
"hm?" is all that comes out.
"someone told me that they think you have a crush on me..." brendon says.
my breath catches in my throat. who? "who told you that?" i say, trying to act disgusted.
"um, someone... but, is it true?" brendon asks. he seems awkward.
"no! you're my best friend. if i did fancy you, i would probably have told you."
my heart breaks.
brendon sighs. "that's good. honestly, i was sort of scared. i thought the idea was ridiculous but i just had to make sure. it's good that you don't, i didn't want to break your heart."
little too fucking late for that. who even told him?
i force out a laugh. "yeah, that wouldn't be good at all," i say, trying not to let him know he broke my heart.
i feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket and take it out.
seven unseen messages.
josh : TYLER
josh : TY LE RRRR
josh : tYLeR we haVE TO TALk
josh : COME ON TYLER ANSWER ME
josh : HELLOO
josh : seriously tyler come on

tyler : hey, sorry about that, what's wrong?
josh : finalLY
josh : melanie just told me something but i don't think you'll like it...
tyler : what is it?
josh : brendon... he uh
josh : he only likes you as a friend...
tyler : i just figured that out... want to come over later instead of tomorrow?
josh : oh yeah sure, fine by me. i'll be there at 5
i put my phone away.
brendon is staring at the sky.
"i've got to go. see you, brendon," i say, quickly getting up and leaving.
time to see josh, someone who actually cares.

THEN AT THE END SHE SAID THE CONCERT WAS OVER AFTER SHE SANG PACIFY HER THEN EVERYONE GOT UP TO LEAVE BUT SHE CAME BACK AND SAID "JUST KIDDING. THIS IS ACTUALLY THE LAST SONG AND IT'S CALLED MAD HATTER." I'M SO AHHHH
