"I thought you said there was no one else who knew what you were?" I asked Mary as she, Helena and I sat together in the study

"I lied" She shrugged

"Lets cut to the chase here, how many witches do we have?" Helena broke in.

Helena had mid-spine length wavy auburn hair, hypnotic ice cold blue eyes and deeply tanned skin as though she had lived in Tuscany her whole life, she was gorgeous, even with a slightly crooked nose and one ear that seemed pinned further back than the other.

"As far as I know, one more" I told her

"And what do you know about them?" Helena continued

"She's the mother of a friend of mine and she's.. she's pissed.." I shrugged

"Wow, helpful" Helena rolled her eyes sarcastically "I'm guessing she lives wherever that lovely character lives?" She assumed, nodding in the direction of the basement, Pete.

"Daint's Peek" I nodded

"Witch town" Helena mumbled towards Mary

"Witch town?" I repeated questioningly as Duke came back into the room, standing on the far side of the study to listen in

"Daint's Peek is Witch central" Mary informed me

"What does that mean?"

"Its a small, very old town, it's quiet and has a deeply rooted past with some of the first Witches in history having grown there, most of the townspeople are witches themselves or are descendent or connected to a Witch.. " Helena explained "And if they know about you, and us then we are most likely going to die from them rather than the First Made vampires.. " She continued

"Did you know that?" I asked Mary, unsure that she was being completely honest with me

She held her polished red finger nails up in defence "There are a lot of towns like that.. it's anyones guess"

"So what's our next move? If there's a whole town of them, how are we supposed to do this?" I asked, feeling the plan crumble.

I looked in between them as they sat thinking. It was taking too long, there was too much hesitation and it made me extremely nervous.

"There is nothing we can do, is there?" I asked, feeling defeat hit me

"There is.." Helena spoke slowly, locking eyes with Mary "But it may not sit well with some.." She continued carefully.
Mary turned to Duke as he straightened rigid in the doorway, his arms across his chest, his jawline tense.

"What is it?" I asked eagerly

"You're the only one protected against them Rosie.." Mary sighed, not needing to finish her thoughts aloud. I knew where she was going, I was going to have to put myself in the line of fire to get the ball rolling. I was bait.

"No way" Duke instantly protested, Helena rolling her eyes

"Tell me what you're thinking" I told her, ignoring Duke. It was my choice, and whatever I needed to do, I would do.

"If the town doesn't know about you yet, about who you are, we may have a chance at distracting them long enough to take Kasey's mother out of the picture.." Helena said

"And if they already know?" Duke cut in again, taking a step towards us with a stern expression

"That's the risky part.." Helena mumbled toward me "If they know, a number of things could go wrong.."

"Like what?" I rushed out, wanting to know every detail

"They could just kill you, on the spot, they could take you, bribe the First Made vampires for a trade... the list goes on.." She sighed
