Chapter Eighteen - Won't

Start from the beginning

Being myself, being human seemed far too dangerous, far too vulnerable, just like Duke had said. Yes, I had feelings for Callum and I could see myself being happy with him, but it was in no comparison to how happy I would be if I were forever with Duke.

"I've made my choice Callum, I know what I want, I know what I need" I confidently sighed, my voice cracking as I pushed past him,  storming away.

I heard Duke follow me, and thankfully, Callum had chosen not to pursue the matter, or me any further.

"Are you okay?" Duke asked as I made my way down the dark empty street, his figure behind me

"I'm fantastic" I snapped, keeping my head down to hide the threatening tears.

I couldn't be angry at Callum, as much as I wanted too, because I did care about him. All I wanted was a way to make him realise that this was the best thing for me. I wanted him to be happy with the choices I would make. I needed his support, not his backlash

"Maybe we should talk a little bit more about this before you make a concrete decision" He told me, causing me to stop and spin around to face him

"You aren't actually going to take into account anything he said, are you?" I narrowed my eyes

"I have to Rosie" He spoke softly, his hands in his pockets

"No, you don't" I shook my head turning back around to continue walking

"He's right, I don't want you to do it, we can find another way" He continued behind me

"There is no other way" I called back, walking aimlessly

"There has to be, and we'll find it" He tried, catching up to me easily with his long legs, stepping in front of me and stopping me

I kept my head down, not daring to look him in the eye. I was torn, torn between what Callum had said and what my insides said.
It was like head vs heart all over again, fighting each other to the death

"Just, take me home" I spoke softly, staring at the ground as I shuffled my feet in the dirt

I heard him sigh before he stepped closer to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. The next thing I knew, was that he had picked me up and slung me over his shoulder

"Hey! What are you doing?!" I yelled, twisting my torso

"I'm taking you home" He replied casually "Best if you close your eyes though" He added before a whoosh of air surrounded me, the world spinning before my eyes for a split second

I had instinctively closed my eyes and my mouth in fear of swallowing bugs or throwing up. I could hear the pounding of Duke's feet on crunching leaves, from pavement and grass.

5 minutes later, it was over, I could feel that Duke was now standing motionless. I couldn't open my eyes, I felt dizzy, like I was falling through the clouds

"Are we home?" I managed out, feeling sudden nausea hit me

"Mh-hm" Duke replied, still not letting me down "Are you okay?" He asked, obviously sensing my uneasiness

"I think so" I grumbled, my hands clutching the back of his shirt

"Did you close your eyes?" He asked still not moving

"Yes"

"Swear?"

"I swear Duke" I laughed despite my motion sickness "Was that really necessary?"

"It made you laugh didn't it?" He replied

I shook my head and unbunched my hands from his shirt "Down, now" I demanded, trying to push myself off him.
Slowly he let me down, keeping his arms around some part of my waist, just in case.
I kept my eyes closed, trying to breathe through the sickness I felt, and surprisingly, it seemed to be working now that my feet were back on the ground
