My favorite book of ALL TIME is Lyddie by Katherine Paterson. It's a short book, about 160-200 pages, but that doesn't make it any less amazing.

It's set in the 1800s, and the main character is called Lyddie. She comes from a poor family that's in debt. She has three siblings; two sisters and one brother. Her mother is a little... unstable, you could say, and her father left them to go mine gold when she was 10. Lyddie is now 13 and her father has yet to come back.

Lyddie didn't get a chance to get a decent education because she didn't trust her unstable mother with the babies (her two sisters), so she stays home to help tend to them.

Then Lyddie's mother decides to leave their home because she believes the world is going to come to an end soon. She brings Lyddie's sisters with her and leaves Lyddie and her younger brother to fend for themselves at home.

About maybe three months later, a letter is delivered to Lyddie and her brother from their mother saying that she's sending the two off to work to earn money. They will be separated.

This is where Lyddie's story begins.

Lyddie is actually a sad story because I will admit that I cried the first time that I read it. But something that helped the book make me cry was the song that I was listening to - Flares by The Script. The song describes fits the story Lyddie and what Lyddie is going through perfectly. With Flares playing as I read, a few tears escaped my eyes, and my chest was overwhelmed with sadness.

It's a good book. Go read it. :3
