Puella Magi Madoka Magica (PMMM)

Start from the beginning

Next up is Kyoko Sakura. This girl seems like a bitch at first glance, especially when she tries to beats up Sayaka during their first meeting but after finding out about the truth of the Soul Gems, she sympathizes with Sayaka and tries to help her by telling her about her own wish and how it destroyed her family. The way her backstory was told was absolutely brilliant and it explained her personality and who she was up to that point.

(*sighs* But I don't wanna talk about Mami...)

(Keerthana, you have to. If you're going to talk about the show-)

(Alright, alright. I'm getting to it.)

Mami Tomoe had surprisingly less screen time considering that she was one of the main characters. But she gets killed off during episode three and hardly mentioned (sort of) until the last few episodes of the anime. I wouldn't say that she was my favorite character but she....I don't know, can be a little...? Especially with Homura. I know that she's dealing with crippling loneliness but why is she asking Madoka to basically sacrifice her happiness by asking her to become a magical girl because she feels lonely? That being said, I do feel her pain and I'm not going to call her a bitch because of that but its just a little discerning. Being the "big sister" of the group (cause she's a year older than them), she in a way, goes crazy when they find out the Soul Gems and kills Kyoko until Madoka kills her. Damn. Talk about psychotic.

Madoka, in a sense, despite having the series named after her, doesn't seem to have much character development. I read somewhere that she kinda represents the very essence of humanity and innocence and yeah, that does seem to be the case. She is the character that's absorbing what's going on around her. Now, she was a magical girl in the previous timelines that were revealed to us near the end of the anime. However due to Homura stopping her from making a contract with Kyubey at every turn in the current timeline the anime is set in, she's not really able to do anything other than watch her best friends get killed. She is in no way a bad character, but rather the absorb-er. At the end of the series, she proves to be a major game changer though, and I felt that with her personality and taking into consideration that she's probably traumatized by the events in the series, felt like a pure and natural transition. I swear though, the minute I saw Tatsuya drawing Madoka on the sand, I straight out bawled.

Kyubey. Oh boy. Just be prepared to hear me say asshole a lot. With that said, let's talk about the Incubator that contracts with girls to basically collect their emotions/energy and encounter a very universal slow death. It later shows in Rebellion that the Incubators are a hive mind race and OH MY GOD HE IS AN ASSHOLE. I get that he's rather blunt and doesn't understand emotions. I even get the fact that he's quiet the manipulative little cat, telling the magical girls EXACTLY what they want to know and ask. He answers their questions quite honestly but he doesn't tell them what they don't ask for. BUT HE THEN EXPERIMENTS ON HOMURA AND TRIES TO CONTROL MADOKA, WHO HAD BECOME A RAY OF HOPE FOR ALL OF THE MAGICAL GIRLS AT THE END OF THE ANIME. I was legit happy when I saw Kyubey driven mad and beaten up at the end of Rebellion, holy shit.

And finally, let's talk about Homura in the anime. (YAY we're finally about to talk about her) Originally a shy transfer student, she was basically Madoka during the first timeline. When both Madoka and Mami are killed, Homura makes a contract with Kuybey and makes the wish to go back in time and save Madoka. In the next few timelines, Madoka ends up either dying, or gets turned into a witch. In the end, this evolves Homura from a shy and weak magical girl to a girl who's practically a badass with guns and can actually hold herself against Mami in Rebellion, who's a really rather powerful fighter and also who's magic is actually guns. Oh, did I forget to mention that Homura has an infinite arsenal of ammunition and guns in her shield?

Either way, after the events in the anime, she is left the only one who remembers Madoka (with Madoka's brother Tatsuya). In Rebellion....eh. I'm too lazy to explain the plot and this rant is like already a thousand words long. Either way, I felt that it fit with Homura's personality. The thing is, she became a magical girl solely to save Madoka. At one point, Homura had already started to think that Madoka was a delusion because she was the only person who remembered her. She would have been happy if Madoka was happy and safe. However, when Madoka presumably said that she wasn't happy with the situation, she was officially driven to the point of madness, ripping Madoka from her Goddess self and turning into "Demon Homura".

So recently I finished watching Rebellion. And in my opinion, it was pretty good. I do get that the fans don't really like it and said that it contradicted with Homura's character development from the anime but guys, that was the entire bloody point. This movie was supposed to show her spiraling down into madness due to Madoka becoming a mere concept of hope in the new world that she created.

(You guys can argue more about this in the comments, I'm done ranting about the characters. Now onto the fandom.)

Majority of the fandom (and correct me if I'm wrong) is made up of timeline jokes. Like I saw one text post like Homura was texting Madoka saying that she'll always protect her. Madoka responds with: "New timeline who dis?"

Oh, and there were a ton of headless Mami Jokes, if you know what I mean by that.....

Anyway, other than the fandom arguing over whether Rebellion was a cash grab or not, the fandom is pretty chill. Fanfics are kinda rare from my perspective at least. :/

Eh. Majority of my ranting in this chapter came from people misinterpreting the characters tbh. And I think I should stop here unless you want me to make a part two ranting more about the fandom.

AHHH finals are driving me crazy (for the most part.) On the bright side I got an A on my Humanities project so now all I really have to worry about is my math final. Oh boy. Just be prepared to not see me on here until December 16th. After than, I'm more than willing to update all of my stories, and take requests for this rant book.

One more thing: My Nalu fanfic, "Shoot for the Sky, Where the Stars Live" is now featured on Wattpad's official Fairy Tail fanfic reading list! I'm so happy right now ASDFGHJJKLL
