Anime is for kids? WHO THE HELL SAID THAT?! Oh yeah. My family, who can watch Shrek ten times in a row but when I'm watching a Miyazaki movie, "it's for kids."

Sorry. I'm particularly not in a good mood because apparently, I should feel embarrassed for watching and loving Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Also, a ten year old girl asked me why I liked The Legend of Korra because she hates it and called it "for kids."

What I wish I had said to the girl: Oh I'm sorry

What I wish I had said to the girl: Oh I'm sorry. Have you seen the amount of adults older than me watching that bloody show?!

WOW. Okay, so, I'm not allowed to squeal in joy when Big Hero 6 plays on screen at a gathering. So I'm not allowed to watch How To Train Your Dragon 2 without being called a kid. So I'm not allowed to express joy about watching anything that I even remotely like in general because I'm supposed to be the "grown up."

Apparently, I'm supposed to be an eighteen-year old who apparently "needs to stop watching these dumb cartoons" and watch something everybody can watch. Example: Some overdone Bollywood love story with absolutely no substance to it.

To be honest, I feel like people give animated movies far less credit than they deserve. Miyazaki's movies actually deal with really tough subjects like spirituality, environment, race, gender, ect. In fact, when you watch them closely enough, they're social commentary. Not to say others don't as well. HTTYD dealt with family, trust, responsibility, coming of age, all that good stuff. The Lion King is the kid version of Hamlet. Kung Fu Panda dealt with a little bit of philosophy, and just being yourself. Not all animation is mindless crap for kids.

So hey. Guess what? You know who the real kids are? YOU. YES, YOU. YOU WATCH TWILIGHT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD AND SAY THAT IT WAS A GOOD SERIES SO YOU CAN STOP BEING ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY NOW BECAUSE I'M GETTING REAL TIRED OF THE "CARTOONS/ANIME IS FOR KIDS" BULLSHIT. FAMILY GUY IS DEFINITELY NOT A KIDS SHOW. BOB'S BURGER'S IS NOT FOR KIDS. SHREK IS ANIMATED. TANGLED IS ANIMATED. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO WATCH BAMBI AND THEN SAY THAT HTTYD OR FAIRY TAIL OR FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST OR A:TLA OR LEGEND OF KORRA ARE KIDS' STUFF. YES. THE THINGS YOU CALL "FOR KIDS", MAY HAVE WAY MORE SUBSTANCE THAN WHATEVER THE HELL YOU EVER WATCH.

Also, I would love to know one thing: If animation in general is for kids, as you say it is, they why are people like Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe), Craig McCraken (Powerpuff Girls, Wander Over Yonder), Bryan and Mike (A:TLA and TLOK), Hayao Miyazaki and Disney in general (Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb) going out of their way to create shows that appeal to both kids AND adults?

A comment from my G+ post which asked the same question (I altered it but it's still someone else's answer): "Because animation isn't just for kids. It's for people of all ages, boy or girl, men or women, old or young. I wish people would get the one minded mentality that it's for kids out of their *bleep* heads."

To say that animation is not exactly your type, I can respect that. We all have our different tastes and I definitely can't force you to like animation. However, that doesn't give you the right to be a snob about it, and when you try to stop someone from watching a animated movie that he/she really like/love by saying that what they're watching is for kids, that's when you're being an fucking asshole and I'd suggest you reevaluate yourself when Shrek or Frozen pops up on TV and you "somehow" end up watching the rest of the bloody movie.

And don't you dare use the "Because there were kids with me!!!!" excuse on me. Because I will bury the next person alive who uses kids as an excuse for watching any animated movie and/or TV show. Unless you don't like an animated movie because of plot or character development or special effects not being put to good use or the fact that animation is not your cup of tea or if something like Jake and the Neverland Pirates or Dora the Explorer is mind-numbingly marketed towards kids, I'd suggest you get off your high horse, be a little open minded, and accept that you enjoyed the movie and /or TV show.

Animation has so much to offer and most people are reducing down to almost nothing. FREAKING CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) was practically created for your picky needs. (I'm exaggerating here but whatever.)

People need to realize the amount of work that is put into creating an animated movie, even more so than live action. If they just wanted to just slap it on there and collect their paychecks, they would. We need to start treating animated movies and TV shows on the same level as live action movies and TV shows. If anything, animation is simply another medium for storytelling. Most movie critics toady do treat it with the dignity it deserves, but apparently the general public needs a lesson on how to not be pretentious bastards.

Thank you. That is all.
