2: (1) Endless Night [5/16/13]
(Sonnet)

Thinking that only hours ago I could
Have died upon the toss of circumstance
And be a victim to the whims of chance,
I realize the truth: it's never good
To dwell upon those agonies that flood
The body with the sting of biting ants,
My battered self transfixed within a trance
As I succumb to losing so much blood.
But even in my darkest hour of need,
By God, I'm still the keeper of my fate,
The usher of my will! I will survive
To bear this brutal cross on which I bleed
And brave this endless night of pain and wait:
Wait for my Judgment and wake up alive!

(To be continued...)

A/N: Unlike the other English sonnets I've posted here, this is an Italian sonnet. The rhyme scheme makes it more demanding to write, which I personally think mirrors how hard my first day out of the hospital was after my accident. I had to adjust doing old routines in new ways, like sleeping, craping and taking a bath without causing more pain to my arm. This poem was a challenge for myself not only as a poet but as a person, as I challenged myself to type the poem above and this A/N with my right hand while my left is still in a cast; I think it worked out pretty well.
