Chapter 49: Proof, Power, and Payback ⚠️

"Yeah," I confirm. "And I need to know if a lawyer named Yoo Yi Jun is currently in that office."

Another pause.

Then-her chair creaks through the speaker, the sound of fingers flying over a keyboard filling the line. "Give me five minutes."

I nod, even though she can't see me. "Good."

I hang up and set my phone down.

Lim & Ko Legal Services.

The name alone makes my jaw clench.

They sat across from Taehyung. They heard his story. They saw the proof, the bruises, the forged documents-they had everything.

And yet, they did nothing.

They dismissed him.

Told him he had no case.
Told him his pain didn't matter.

My fingers drum against the desk, slow and measured.
They'll remember that mistake soon enough.

I inhale, rolling my shoulders back as I try to keep my mind focused on the strategy-the legal battle ahead.

But my thoughts keep drifting.
Not to the case itself.
To them.

To Y/N, Yoongi, and Taehyung.

To the way they lingered even after they had left.
To the weight of their presence still settling into my chest.

I know what this is.

I shove the thought away before it can sink its claws too deep. Not now.

The thought comes out of nowhere, unbidden. Mine.

I suck in a sharp breath, shaking my head.

Not yet.
Not officially.
Not confirmed.

But it doesn't matter, does it?

Because whether the app acknowledges it or not-I already know the truth.

I press my thumb and forefinger to the bridge of my nose, exhaling.

I need to focus.
I need to stop pacing.

My phone buzzes.

I answer instantly. "Jisoo?"

"All set," she announces smoothly. "The Lim & Ko office is located in Gangnam. I'll message you the exact address after this. Lawyer Yoo Yi Jun is currently at the office, along with the CEO of the firm."

My eyes sharpen. "The CEO?"

Jisoo hums. "Figured you might want to see both of them. Already scheduled a meeting with them in 30mins"

I blink. Then-I smirk.

Jisoo is too competent for her own good.

"I didn't even have to tell you, huh?"

"You never do," she quips, amusement in her tone. "You're predictable when you're pissed, boss."

I snort, shaking my head. "Cancel my meetings for the rest of the afternoon."

There's no hesitation. "Done."

I grab my suit jacket from the chair, shrugging it on. "I'll be stepping out."
