"But we have to be smart."
His voice is steady again. Collected.
The moment of fury is gone-tucked neatly behind his professional exterior.
"We'll start by filing a civil suit," he continues, "which will freeze their assets and block them from spending more of your inheritance. Then, once we gather enough evidence, we'll move forward with criminal charges."
Yoongi scoffs. "We shouldn't even have to gather evidence. They locked him in a basement and fucking tortured him."
Jin tilts his head slightly, eyes sharp. "You're right."
A pause.
Then-
His lips curve into something cold.
"But I want to crush them in court."
Taehyung's breath catches.
Jin leans forward, his voice deceptively soft.
"I want them to lose everything. Not just your money, Taehyung. I want them to have nothing left. No house. No wealth. No reputation. And a life behind bars."
Yoongi blinks.
I inhale sharply.
And Taehyung-
His lips part.
His fingers tremble in my grasp.
Because Jin-
Jin isn't just talking about winning this case.
He's talking about obliterating them.
"They don't deserve to walk away with even a scrap of the life they stole from you," Jin says smoothly. "I'll make sure of that."
A beat.
A breath.
Then-
Taehyung exhales.
And for the first time, I see it.
The tension in his shoulders easing.
The flicker of trust in his eyes.
Because Jin-despite his calm, his poise, his control-is furious for him.
And Taehyung feels it.
"Okay," Taehyung whispers.
Jin nods.
Then-
He smiles.
Soft. Gentle. Reassuring.
But underneath it-
I see the promise.
They will pay for this.
Jin's pen glides across the page, his expression unreadable as he writes.
The soft scratching of ink against paper is the only sound in the room, stretching the silence so thin it feels like it might snap.
Taehyung sits beside me, his posture rigid, his hands curled into the fabric of his sweater.
He's nervous-I can feel it in the way his breath hitches, the way his knee bounces slightly beneath the desk.
Yoongi notices, too.
Without a word, he presses a firm hand against Taehyung's thigh, grounding him.
And slowly, Taehyung exhales.
Jin doesn't miss it. His gaze flickers up, assessing, but he says nothing.
Instead, he leans back in his chair, the leather creaking under his weight.
"We'll need more witnesses." His voice is smooth, composed-but beneath that polished exterior, I hear it. The storm simmering beneath his restraint.
Taehyung swallows. "Who... who would even help me?"
Jin tilts his head slightly. "More people than you think."
Yoongi scoffs. "Anyone with a fucking conscience would help."
Jin hums, noncommittal, then flips to a fresh page in his notebook. "Let's list them out."
He glances at Taehyung. "You mentioned a neighbor before. The one who gave you your aunt and uncle's new address?"
