Then, finally, he exhales and breaks the silence.
"You guys..." His voice is quiet, hesitant in a way that makes my heart clench.
He doesn't look at us at first, just keeps his gaze fixed somewhere on the floor. "Do you really think we should do it?"
Yoongi and I exchange glances.
We don't need to ask what he means. We already know.
Suing his aunt and uncle.
Holding them accountable for everything they did.
Taking back what was stolen.
The weight of it settles between us, thick and suffocating.
Yoongi is the first to speak. His voice is steady, but there's something burning beneath it-something sharp, something furious. "They don't deserve to get away with it, Tae."
I nod, reaching for Taehyung's hand, fingers threading through his in an attempt to ground him. "And you deserve justice."
Taehyung exhales slowly, his thumb rubbing absently against my skin. He doesn't speak right away, and I can see the hesitation in his eyes-the war raging inside of him.
And I remember.
I remember the night, months ago, when Yoongi and I first sat him down and told him what we wanted to do.
It was late. The apartment was quiet except for the soft hum of the refrigerator and the occasional clink of Yoongi's spoon against his mug as he stirred his coffee.
Taehyung sat across from us at the dining table, his fingers wrapped around a glass of water he hadn't touched in minutes.
He looked exhausted-worn thin in a way that went deeper than just physical tiredness.
Yoongi had been the one to speak first.
He leaned forward, forearms resting against the table, and for a long moment, he just looked at Taehyung.
Studied him. Like he was trying to commit every inch of him to memory.
Then, in a voice rough with restraint, he said, "We want to go after them."
Taehyung blinked, startled. "What?"
"Your aunt and uncle," I clarified softly. "We want to sue them. We want to make them pay for what they did to you."
He froze, fingers tightening around his glass.
Yoongi's jaw clenched, his grip on his mug white-knuckled. "Tae... they hurt you. For years. And they got away with it. They stole from you. They abused you. And they never once paid for any of it."
His voice shook, his anger barely contained. "If it were up to me, they'd already be dead."
I reached for Yoongi's arm, grounding him, though I knew his fury mirrored my own.
Because it was true. If we could erase those monsters from existence, we would.
But we couldn't.
And so, we had to do the only thing we could.
"We know we can't take justice into our own hands," I murmured. "But what we can do is fight back the only way we're allowed to. We can sue them. We can take them to court. We can make them answer for every single thing they did to you."
I swallowed, forcing myself to hold his gaze. "But it's not our choice to make, Tae. It's yours."
His throat bobbed as he swallowed, his breathing slow, measured. "You-" He hesitated. "You really want to do this?"
