Nari winked at me. "At least we knew where to find him-climbing the walls like a confused spider in the middle of a midlife crisis."
His mom, sitting next to him, chuckled softly. "We were all worried about him back then."
Yoongi's eyes softened as he glanced at his mom. "I did what I had to do to find my sound. I guess it all worked out in the end, huh?"
I smiled, feeling my heart warm at the sight of Yoongi with his family. There was something so special about seeing him in this context-lighthearted, teasing, but still so connected to those who had been with him through it all.
Nari turned to me, clearly eager to get to know me better. "So, Y/N, how did you and Oppa end up working together? I bet there's a story there."
I paused for a moment before answering. "Well, we're both in the tech industry. I'm a product manager, and Yoongi's a cybersecurity engineer. We met through work and started collaborating on a project. At first, it was all business, but I think we both knew there was something more."
Yoongi gave me a soft smile, his eyes twinkling with affection. "Yeah, we just clicked. We've been getting to know each other better ever since. It's been... pretty amazing."
Nari grinned widely, clearly happy for her brother. "It's good to see you happy, Oppa. I was wondering when you'd finally meet someone who'd put up with your stubbornness."
"Stubbornness? I'm not stubborn," Yoongi said, feigning offense. "I'm just... passionate."
We all laughed again, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging-here, with Yoongi and his family. Even though we'd only just started bonding, it felt like something I'd been missing all along.
The easy way we fit together. How much we cared about each other without even having to say it.
As the evening wore on, it became clear that Yoongi's family was enjoying this as much as I was.
They asked me more questions, laughing at my stories and sharing even more about Yoongi's childhood. I was learning so much about him from the people who loved him most.
When the time came for Nari and Yoongi's mom to leave, they both got up from the table, offering soft smiles to each other.
"Well, we should head out now," Yoongi's mom said, looking at her son with love.
"It's been a wonderful day, but we'll let you two have some time to yourselves."
Nari grinned and hugged Yoongi tightly. "Happy birthday, Oppa. I'm so proud of you."
Yoongi's mom joined in with a warm, heartfelt hug. "You're growing up so well, Yoongi. I'm glad to see you happy. And Y/N, thank you for making his day so special. It means a lot to me."
Yoongi was visibly moved by the gesture, his expression softening as he pulled both his mom and Nari close. "Thanks, Mom. Nari. You guys are the best. And, hey," he added, looking at his mom with a teasing smile, "no more sneak-outs, alright?"
His mom chuckled, pulling away with a wink. "No promises. Now you're on your own with all that privacy."
Nari laughed and turned to me, offering me a warm hug as well. "It was so nice to meet you, Y/N. I'm really glad you're in Oppa's life."
I smiled, feeling my heart swell with happiness. "Thank you, Nari. It means a lot to me. I'm really happy to be here."
Yoongi's mom gave me a hug too, squeezing me tight. "I'm so glad you came. Take care of each other."
When they finally left, I was left alone with Yoongi in the kitchen, the last traces of laughter still lingering in the air.
Yoongi turned to me, his eyes soft with affection. "Thank you for today. For everything. I really... I'm glad here, Y/N."
