His mom, too, was beaming from the other side of the room, happy to see Yoongi and me interacting so comfortably.
"You two are so cute together," Nari chimed in from the kitchen, not missing a beat.
Yoongi chuckled, his hand still resting lightly on mine as he leaned in a little closer. "Yeah, we've got this whole adorable thing down."
I couldn't help but laugh, feeling the tension finally dissipating. Yoongi's mom added, "Yes, you really are. I'm so happy to see you two like this. I think you're both good for each other."
As if on cue, Yoongi's mom set down a bowl of soup on the table, smiling brightly.
"Now, let's eat before the food gets cold. Nari, stop making them wait, it's time to enjoy the meal!"
I shot Yoongi a glance, my heart still fluttering. "You really do have a great family," I murmured, still a little overwhelmed.
"I know," he said softly, squeezing my hand again, his touch lingering.
"And now I've got a great person to share it with."
I wasn't sure what exactly I was feeling, but in that moment, it didn't matter.
The cake, the surprise, and everything that had unfolded-it was clear that things between Yoongi and I were only getting stronger.
Even his teasing, his sweet touches, and the way he made me blush-it all just added to the feeling that I was exactly where I needed to be.
Yoongi's eyes twinkled as he reached for the birthday hat that had been sitting on the table, and with a playful grin, he placed it on his head.
"Alright, alright," he said, rolling his eyes but clearly amused. "I'll wear the hat. But only because you went through all the trouble of getting it."
I laughed, shaking my head as I leaned into him slightly. "You're ridiculous."
"I know," he said with a chuckle, his hand brushing against mine once more, his fingers lacing with mine this time. "But I'm ridiculous for you, Y/N."
And in that moment, with everything around us-his family, the cake, the teasing, the sweet little touches-I realized that this birthday, however unexpected, had turned out to be perfect after all.
Nari and his mom were still smiling at us, clearly enjoying the way we were interacting.
His mom leaned over to Nari and whispered something, Nari nodded in agreement at that, both of them trying to hide their smiles.
Yoongi laughed lightly and raised his glass of water, offering a toast. "To unexpected surprises, the best cake ever, and a birthday I'll never forget."
"Here, here!" Nari and his mom said in unison, clinking their glasses together.
Yoongi's mom beamed. "And to you two! I can't wait to see where this goes. It's about time Yoongi found someone as wonderful as you, Y/N."
Yoongi rolled his eyes at his mom's teasing but couldn't help but smile. "Alright, mom, enough with the embarrassing stuff. But thank you, seriously."
As the meal continued, with Yoongi's mom and Nari chatting happily, I couldn't help but feel grateful.
Grateful for the unexpected turns of the day, for the warmth and laughter that filled the apartment, and most of all, for Yoongi.
When it came time for cake, Yoongi didn't hold back on his appreciation. "This is amazing, Y/N," he said, his eyes lighting up as he took a bite.
"You really nailed it with the cake. It's... perfect. Just like everything else you've done today."
