But there was always something missing.

I was sitting in my small apartment one night, my computer glowing with lines of code when my phone buzzed on the table. It was a message from my mom.

Mom:
Are you free this weekend? Your sister wants to visit. It's been too long.

I sighed, staring at the screen.

My mom never asked for much, but I hated the way her requests always felt like they came with unspoken expectations.

She didn't say it outright, but I could feel the weight in her words-she missed me. She wanted us to be together again.

But what she didn't understand was that I wasn't just some son who could show up for dinner and pretend things were fine.

My whole life had been about keeping them safe, but I was always running from something.

I didn't know how to be present, not fully, not after everything that had happened.

I pushed myself away from the desk and made my way to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water before I tapped out a quick reply.

Suga:
I'm busy with work, but I'll try to come by soon.

I left it at that.

It wasn't that I didn't love them-my mother and my younger sister, Nari-but there was something suffocating about how to approach them like family.

My mom especially.

She'd been my rock, the person who held us together when everything fell apart, and I wanted to take care of her. But sometimes I didn't know how.

The next day, my sister's voice echoed through my phone.

"Oppaaaaaaa, You coming to see us soon or what?"
