The calm before the storm

Distracting myself with shiny toys and an illegal pet monkey to face the reality and open my eyes to my sister's abusive behaviors towards me. I don't want that again.

"But you look so happy when you sing! Plus there isn't anything you missed about being one of Mount Rageous's top pop star?" Her fingers interlaced with mine. Was there anything I missed?

Velvet being nice to me even if it was temporary.

I shook my head at that extremely intrusive thought, I didn't want to miss that, I still feel like her hands were still around my neck, around my waist telling me that we deserved everything our heart craved.

"Not really, I mean the access to anything I wanted was nice but at what cost? I don't want the fame anymore, I'm content here with my future husband and my loving sister who wants me to be in a band." My voice released a tired sigh after that. I'm content like this, especially because I've gotten everything my heart desires; a family that loves me with overprotective sisters, an amazing partner who desires me regardless of everything that I've done. I got what my hearts been yearning for all these years.

No need to carry my sister's dreams along with my own anymore, her dreams were dreams of grandeur that were based on a sweet lie that involved torture and cheating her way through. She never needed me and I didn't need her anymore.

We lived separate lives now.

I tapped my finger on her nose to pull myself away from my thoughts as I moved out of the bed, my new appendage hitting the backs of my legs as I moved to the closet leaving my sister and my lover at the bed.

"I mean you can sing, you can dance, you're stunning to look at since not every troll has white fur like you do and you're so talented Veneer! You deserve to have 15 more minutes that aren't tainted by your previous experience." Her eyes turned wide and glossy as she pouted with her bottom lip sticking out by a smidge.

She was using puppy dog eyes on me and it was extremely effective as I murmured out,

"You're really not going to let this up until I'm on stage are you?" My fingers dancing across a plethora of outfits trying to pick the best one for our outing today.

"Well~ me and Viva will be performing with some rock trolls and we kinda said that you'd be there." I giggled as I slipped on high waisted ankle length palazzo pants that had a wide Leg that was the color of my hair that were decorated with baby flamingo pink hibiscus flowers.

"Let me guess you included me in the band and changed the name?" I put my left fist on my cocked hip with my body leaning against the frame of the closet. Her eyes immediately looked away from mine as I received my answer,

"Yep we're Rainbow Sherbet!" I rose an eyebrow at the name and rotated my hand as to silently ask her to explain the name,

"Get it! It's green, pink and orange~ it represents all of our hair colors I mean Viva's hair's gold but it's close enough to orange! Plus we eat sugary things so the name fit." I snorted and pulled on my shirt which was a loose long sleeved white crop top. It showed off my soft stomach as I stepped over to my vanity.

"You know what popalicous I can't dunk on that one, that is creative." I pulled out an adorable white floppy sun hat that had a wide brim with a green ribbon bow wrapped around it.

"Mmmmm" my lover shifted in the bed as I slipped on a tiny pair of open toed sandals. Poppy was standing over him like a weirdo, staring at his sleeping form.

I took in her outfit, her dress was a blue A line dress that flared in in the middle with a circle skirt, on her feet were blue flip flops with a giant daisy on the middle of toe strap.

Her hair was styled in a high tight bun with a pair of blue heart shaped sunglasses on her nose, honestly our outfits kinda went to the chilled summer vibe despite the settling chill of winter was moving in upon us.

"Poppy girl what are you doing?" I placed my hands on her shoulders a tad confused about what she hoped to achieve,

"Well usually when I stand over branch like this, he wakes up almost instantly." She leaned back against me as I rubbed her upper arms as I led her back to the vanity.

"Girl isn't your man captain paranoid?" My eyes rolled as she wrapped her arms around my waist with my arm around her shoulders as I made her sit in the chair

"Well yeah he is but I figured they be similar since they're brothers and stuff." Himalayan salt eyes looked at my milky hands as they searched for a piece of paper to write down a note for my darling who was sleeping like a rock.

"Well Floyd's a pretty deep sleeper so I'll write him a note before we head off." She nodded her head at me as she rewrapped the scarf around her warm peony colored neck, hiding her dirty little secrets beneath it.

A finished my note with it reading:

Good morning my darling,
If you're wondering where I am, I'll be spending time with Branch and Poppy, they invited me to a river to I guess watch Branch fish,
But that's it, I'll be home soon and can't wait to snuggle you again.

I placed the piece of paper next to my beloved's face as his restful features made my heart curl at his cuteness and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek.

"C'mon Ven!" Poppy then gripped my hand as she pulled me away and down the staircase off to have a lovely day together,

However as we made our way out the door my guts twisted as if something bad was going to happen today.
