Chapter 31

Eva's Pov

We are sitting with the lawyer as we discuss the evidence against Petra

"There's security footage of you wheeling Ivan out of the hotel." The lawyer states

"I was helping my mother!" Petra justified

"The murder weapon has Ivan's blood on it, and your fingerprints." The lawyer shows us a photo of the new knives we got for the hotel.

"This isn't the murder weapon. The murder weapon was my mother's hook." Petra says

"No one knows where that is." The lawyer tells us

"Because she had that one removed last month. It could be at the bottom of the ocean." Petra says getting frustrated so I take a hold of her hand

"And without it the case comes down to your word against hers." The lawyer says

"My mother is a convicted felon." Petra exclaimed

"She also came forward and you didn't." The lawyer says

I realise that Petra tunes out the rest of the conversation and soon enough the meeting is over

We tried to hide a recorder in the room to get Magda's confession but she caught on.

We are working on another plan when Petra gets a call from the Defense attorney

"They're offering me a plea. Eighteen months. I'll be out in 14. But there is a 24 hour clock on this offer, so maybe— Maybe I should" she said and I cut her off

"Should just plead guilty to something you didn't do? No absolutely not." I say

"What's my alternative? Go to trial, risk a long sentence?" Petra says

"I'll find you a new attorney, a better attorney." Rafael says speaking my mind

"She's the best." Petra says looking defeated

"Not if she's asking you to plead. That's ridiculous." Rafael snaps

"I'm sorry, this is crazy." He says

"I know." Petra says and a look of discomfort enters her face

"Are you ok?" I ask

"Yeah I'm fine. Just a little dizzy." She says as she sits down and rubs her belly.

"When was the last time you ate?" Rafael asks and Petra hesitates to speak.

"If you have to think about it, it's been too long." I say

Luckily the one thing Petra was craving was the one thing Rafael and I grew up making for each other whenever we were upset or nervous.

Rafael's phone started to ring and he ignores it.

"Your mother?" Petra asks

"She calls every day now." Rafael says

"Thought you were ready to hear the whole story." Petra says

"Why she took 10 million dollars to walk away from me? The more that I think about it, what could she possibly say?" Rafael tells her

"Well, you don't know right? Look at a certain point, under certain pressures I might have taken money like that. And I'm not a bad person. Right?" Petra asks

"No you're not." I say

"Besides she can't be worse than my mom." Petra says

"You have a point there." Raf says as grab the knife

"I'm sorry do you have to do that? You're kinda holding the murder weapon." Petra says

"Not really, new ones. These have an M." I say as I show her the handle

"No it had an M. I saw the picture." Petra said

"Wait are you sure? Petra this is new cutlery. It came in before the Christmas party." I say

"After Ivan was killed." Petra says catching on.

Finally Petra was innocent and we turned Magda in. Magda was dragged out of he Marbella and arrested for falsifying evidence.

The next day I found Rafael unconscious in the closet of his room.
