Hiigara, a beautiful planet, vibrant with green forests and blue oceans very similar to our own Earth. Free from the tyrannical rule of the Taiidan and their late Emperor, whom was killed when the Taiidan Mothership was destroyed by the Kushan Navy in the Battle for Hiigara. High above the planet, waiting in one of the many orbiting shipyards, the Fleet of Ascended Justice sits, anxiously for their next assignment. The Commander of which hurries to his fleet carrier, a prestigious symbol of Hiigaran might. The buzzing of maintenance personnel and transports carrying supplies for ships under construction echoing throughout the hangar.

Fleet Carrier Apollo

As the commander approaches the boarding elevator, two security guards halt him. On que, the esteemed commander holds up his ID for verification, one guard gives it a quick look over, and turns to the other guard.

Guard 1 : "Clear."

He then turns back to you.

Guard 1 : "Welcome back to your fleet sir. They await your order for departure."

Guard 2 : "Go give those damned Imperialists hell sir."

You silently thank them by nodding and board the elevator. The machinery whirs to life as you are propelled high above to an access hatch, the hangar's personnel becoming less distinct as the other warships of Ascended Justice tower above them. Ranging from small strike craft such as nimble cloak fighters and slower but tougher corvettes, to powerful frigates and destroyers, the backbone of any fleet. A sense of pride and accomplishment wells up within as you survey your fleet. The elevator halts and the access hatch opens, granting you entry. You turn left at the immediate intersection in the hallway towards the Bridge.

Within the Bridge

The command deck is bustling with the energy of refreshed crew after the past mission, which involved clearing out Turanic Raiders from a Hiigaran Mining Depot. Three individuals stand out among the others.

Intelligence Officer Raymond, who manages all sensor and ship system data and relays it to other departments on board the carrier or to the other ships in the fleet.

Chief Drives Officer Jenssen, who controls the output of the carrier's engines, plots courses, and manages the Hyperdrive.

Hangar Manager De'Rieves, who obviously manages the hangar bay, all strike craft within, repair/re-arming objectives, and the construction bay.

De'Rieves: "I swear those pirates are getting crazier with their tactics every time we fight them. Using thermonuclear missiles that could have also destroyed our mining base had they hit us? Did they not care at all for the crew inside and the potential spoils?"

Jennsen: "I'd doubt it. Remember they're employed by the Taiidani to be a thorn in our side and take up resources and logistics. It was a good thing I was able to move us out of the path of that swarm."

Raymond: "And almost hit a drifting asteroid the same size as this carrier while doing it. Would it kill you to pay more attention to my sensor data?? Because that rock was clearly on it."

Jenssen: "Eh we survived and completed the mission. Besides, you know my skill and how good of a Drives Officer I am."

Raymond: "We still have the data logs. Why don't we pull up the sensor one and SEE just how close you got?"

Random Officer: "Commander on deck!"

All conversation stops immediately as you enter the bridge and all personnel inside salute and stand at attention.

Y/N: "At ease everyone. As you know we have been given a new mission, and it backtracks our original journey to Hiigara. HQ has detected an unidentified signal that matches nothing in our database. Since Ascended Justice is among the faster fleets, they've dispatched us to investigate. The location we are visiting once more? The Karos Graveyard."

Murmurs spread across the crew stationed in the bridge. The Karos Graveyard is a haunting place, with thousands of derelict and wrecked ships in each sector. So what you might ask? They are all neatly sorted in groups, as if something upkeeps the Graveyard like its own home. And this is correct. In the logs documenting the Kushan Expedition to Hiigara, in the Karos Graveyard mission files, an autonomous ship with the name Junkyard Dog is mentioned. Not much is known about it, but what is known is that there were no crew life signs detected aboard and the Dog never leaves the Graveyard. None of the derelicts match any known designs either.

Raymond: "But sir. The Junkyard Dog is a very real and severe threat to our capital ships. It has heavy armor and powerful engines for grabbing a quick and easy kill."

Y/N: "Don't worry about the Dog too much. I'll come up with a plan that will see us through."

Jenssen: "Yeah Ray, our commander is great at coming up with strategies."

Y/N: "Well alright then. Raymond, inform the other ships of Ascended Justice that we are departing. Jennsen, ready the engines and warm up the Hyperdrive. De'Rieves, make sure we have enough space in the hangar for our fighter and corvette class."

All: "Yes Commander!"

The Commander is soon lost in thought as the revving of space engines grows louder and the crew return to their duties. He is glad to be given a mission, but he wonders why another fleet couldn't be sent out and why this mission is so unimportant to the war effort. You shake your head to clear it, but you cannot remove the feeling that something is not quite right with this "unidentified signal."
