Her back leaned against the black desk chair and crossed the heels of her black leather boots on top of it. Her large black pedestal desk was cluttered with a Manila folder and several pictures, all taken with her trusty silver and black Canon camera. Her jet-black computer sat nearby, while a steaming cup of tea sat beside it. The office was a noisy place, with phones ringing and people chattering, but she was lost in her work, examining the files and pictures in front of her. The walls were painted beige, creating a sterile, corporate atmosphere that was only broken by the occasional beep of a pager.
Leona intently observed his appearance - his rich dark chocolate complexion, full lips, and striking dark brown eyes. Her gaze wandered to the glimmering hoop earring adorning his right ear and the cunning grin that showed a top-row gold grill. He sported a low fade with a precise lineup, paired with a luxurious chinchilla fur coat, a sleek black shirt, and matching pants. Leona admired the gold medallion dangling from his neck and the dazzling jewelry that adorned his fingers and wrist. Lost in contemplation, she hummed softly to herself, captivated by his allure.
His name was Kadeem Mathis but in the streets and everyone knew he went by the name of Unique. A drug kingpin in South Jamaica, Queens. He was running the blocks in the palm of his hand, this man was well-known & feared by many.
Before Leona was a detective for the NYPD, she used to be a photographer in the department where she took pictures of crimes scenes to help the police, she was recommended to Detective Howard & Detective Burke to photograph Unique for evidence however the male himself was aware of it when he recognized her face, her camera and lastly her car. Unique walked up to the window and told her he would never forget her pretty face.
She had grown tired of simply photographing crime scenes and decided to become a detective instead. Unique's whereabouts were already being investigated, and Leona had encountered him several times, causing her to feel uneasy. Once, he even offered to buy her a pair of red heels, but she declined.
Despite her reservations, Leona embarked on a private investigation of Unique without informing Detective Howard or the police chief. She wanted to handle the case alone, perhaps because she wanted to see him again or because she didn't want to answer too many questions.
While Leona was lost in thought, Detective Howard interrupted her, "You good B?" causing her to jump and knock over a cup of tea. The glass shattered on the floor, and Leona was furious. "I told you not to do that shit anymore!" she yelled, standing up from her seat and glaring at him.
"My bad, I'll clean that up." Detective Howard offered, extending his hand as he sauntered towards the scene with a dustpan and a slender broom. he reached the spot to sweep away the shattered glass and mop up the spilt coffee, she couldn't help but feel irritated by his tendency to appear without warning.
