The group sat in silence for a moment.

They understood what Evi meant.

Even in their history, many times man has tried to become God, and in none of those stories did it end well for humans. They were always met with God's wrath.

" Did the Gods wage war on you?" Bheem asked, who was now completely knee deep into Evi's story.

" Rather the opposite I believe. We started to sway so far away from Humanity that we were out of bounds even for Gods" Evi looked solemn. She was an atheist, as she had no reason to have faith in her world. No one seemed to be happy, or living. The concept of God died in a few years after the war was waged.

But now that she was in another yug, she couldn't help but wonder, if she would ever be able to confront Lord Krishna. To ask him why he didn't help humans. Were they that bad that he didn't even reincarnate to save them? Or was it time for humans to perish altogether.

" What happened next?" Nakul asked, breaking Evi from her train of thoughts.

" Right... So I was in army for 6 years, before human experiments started to be done on all soldiers. I was thus 32, when I was installed as Evi in the platoon"

" Why the name Evi?" Kunti asked which made the Pandavas squint their eyes at her accusingly for interrupting.

Evi lost her track as she tried to explain how she got her name via roman numerals (V and I) , the divisions of army, navy and airforce as well as the missions of her own group, but this only brought her closer with the Pandavas. They were excited to learn so many new strategy of war which however was the last thing she wanted to teach them.

" But I don't understand.... So you all instead of trying to become immortals, just kept reincarnating out of your own will?" Arjun asked

" Yes we never became immortal. Its just our memories, skills and consciousness were transferred from one body to the other. I think scientists did try that route but no matter what, human bodies were always perishable"

" I guess no amount of science can beat mortality" Yudhishthir chuckled a bit.

" Yea I guess your father is very diligent with his job" Evi joked which made the pandavas snicker slightly.

" Hey wait!" Nakul put his hands in front of him and stood up as if he was just going to scream " Eureka"

" This makes Devika the oldest amongst us!"

Everyone's eyes widened at realisation. Even Kunti couldn't hide her shock.

" Oh my god!" Arjun put a hand on his mouth sarcastically. " She is even older than Pitamah"

" She is a Great-great-great grandmother!!" Bheem rolled around laughing while holding his stomach.

Kunti too couldn't stop herself from laughing and so did Yudhishthir. The whole gang broke out in a fit of laughter which only made Evi bit more comfortable. For the first time she was the reason of laughter amongst them.

The group continued their journey out of the forest. It had already been two weeks since Evi joined them. No one seemed to mind her presence now as she had started adjusting to her surroundings.

" Nakul, didn't you tell me that courtman Vidur gave you a place to stay in the forest? Then why did you leave?" Evi asked as she carried a bunch of branches for the fire along with Nakul, Arjun and Yudhishthir.

" Ahh yes. I forgot to tell you" Nakul exclaimed. " We were actually gathering food when we found you. After that little meet with krishna, he didn't only tell us to look after you, but also head for Panchal for some reason"
