Part 14

Steve

Almost a month had passed since Eddie and Steve got together, and junior year of high school started in just a few weeks. "I think we should tell the kids, are you cool with that?" Steve asked, looking over at Eddie. They were laying on Eddie's bed, hands intertwined. "Sure, as long as I get to be there" he licked his lips. "Of course, they wouldn't believe me otherwise." Steve chuckled.

A few hours later Steve was sitting on the counter at Family Video. He'd called a party meeting, but so far no one had shown up. "I don't think they're coming," Eddie said. He was sitting beside Steve, fiddling with the rings on his fingers. "Give them time," Steve said, doodling on a receipt. Steve was right, because a few moments later Dustin stomped into the store with a grin on his face. "Is this what I think it is?!" "You told him?!" Eddie turned to Steve, one eyebrow raised. Steve put his hands up in surrender. "He's the one who stalked my house and happened to see your car in my driveway!" "I was not stalking!" "Oh really?!" "Guys!" Eddie shouted. They fell silent. He pointed out the window at Max and El walking into the store hand in hand. Steve raised his eyebrow at Dustin, who just shrugged. The two walked into the store, pulling their hands apart when they noticed everyone staring at them. "So, what is this emergency meeting for?" Max asked, looking unimpressed.  "Right on time!"  Eddie clapped as Mike and Will walked into the store. "Is Lucas coming?" Steve asked. "No...he's got this thing with his family." Mike said. "He's probably sucking face with some blonde chick!" Max huffed. "Whoa! You guys broke up?!" Steve looked at Mike for help. "Yup. We. are. over."

"Ok... well, we have brought you all here today-"
"Just get to the point! We don't have all day!" Max interrupted. "Jeez, alright. Me and Eddie are dating." He announced. All the heads in the room swiveled to him. "Actually?" Max asked, raising an eyebrow. "Yup." Eddie confirmed, popping the P. "I don't believe it. I need proof" Max said. Steve turned to Eddie, shrugging. "Why not?" Eddie said, leaning in and pressing his lips to Steve's. In a matter of seconds, it turned into a full on make out session. Dustin cleared his throat. "Sorry" the boys both mumbled, pulling away.  "Well, if that's all, we're gonna go," Mike said. "Cool, see ya" Max mumbled.

"Well, that was easier than I thought it would be," Steve said to Eddie as Max and El followed Mike and Will out without even saying a word. "Ya, I was expecting more of a reaction" Eddie answered. Steve turned to look at Eddie, who was smiling and inspecting the doodles on the receipt, and suddenly a realization hit him like a ton of bricks. It was finally hitting him that this boy was his. Eddie looked at him with a kind smile. "These look really cool Stevie" said, swinging his legs. It was like a veil had been suddenly lifted off his eyes, like he was seeing him clearly for the first time. He noticed things he'd never noticed before. like how long Eddie's eyelashes were, the way a small crease formed in between his eyebrows when he smiled, the small dimple on his left cheek. And it was so sudden it knocked the breath from his lungs.

Eddie

Eddie was shocked by the way Steve was looking at him, like it was the first time he was seeing him. "Are you ok Stevie?" He asked, his eyebrows knitted together with worry. "Ya... I just...you're so beautiful, you know that?" Eddie blushed at Steve's words. "You think so?" Eddie scratched the back of his neck. "Ya... you're the most gorgeous guy I've ever met," Steve whispered, gently cupping Eddie's face. "I love you so much Steve, more than anything. You're my one and only" Eddie said quietly, leaning his forehead against Steve's. "I love you so much it hurts. I know it sounds cheesy, but I feel like I've lived my whole life with a hole in my heart, an empty drawer, waiting for someone to fill the space. And then I saw you, and instantly the space was gone, because you made me whole Steve. You saved me." Eddie sniffled, a tear running down his cheek. "The moment I saw you it was like that feeling when you put the last piece in a puzzle, and then you finally see the whole picture, Ya know?" Steve whispered, his hand resting on the back of Eddie's head, gently stroking his hair. "We're so cheesy! Robyn would make fun of us forever" Eddie laughed, resting his hands on Steve's waist. "Let's go home, Eds." He whispered, gently kissing his boyfriend on the forehead. "Oki!" Eddie chirped happily.

Steve

Steve couldn't help but giggle at Eddie's childlike nature. "Race you!" His boyfriend yelled, sprinting towards the car. "Hey! That's not fair! You've got a head start!" Steve laughed, racing after Eddie. He felt light, bubbly, happy. He felt loved. Really, truly loved. It was the first time he'd felt like this in a long time, And for the first time since Nancy had Broken his heart, the black cloud was gone, The ache of loneliness replaced with the buzz of young love.

He couldn't help but feel giddy with joy as he got into the front seat and started driving to his house, the boys exchanging their usual playful banter. When they got home Steve made Kraft dinner, Eddie's favourite, and they watched Care Bears and cuddled on the couch.

"Hey Steve, I know this is random, but do you want to get married someday?" Steve was sitting on the couch with Eddie's head in his lap, playing  With his hair. He was taken aback by the question. "I've never really thought about it before, but I suppose we could get married, if you wanted," he smiled down at his lover, butterflies swarming in his stomach. "I would like that," Eddie whispered. "Someday. Someday I promise we'll get married on a beach at sunset, and then we'll have our honeymoon in hawaii" he grinned. They sat in silence for a few minutes, both dreaming of the day when they could say I do. "Hey Steve?" "Yea Eds?" "I love you" "I love you too little punk" There was another moment of silence. "Hey steve?" "What Eds?" "I wanna have sex" "what?"
