31. I didn't know

I got home and had a talk with dad as he complained about me being gone and I knew I couldn't tell him about Eddie or else he'd call the police, so I just said I was with friends. I went up to my room and got changed into one of Eddie's big shirts before laying down in bed and turning off my lights. I thought about Eddie and how he would be there alone with nightmares—if he even still had them now. But I brushed it off and tried to go to sleep.

Dream*

I ran and knelt by Eddie.

"Oh god!" Dustin shouts.

I sat by him and held him up as he choked and
struggled. I looked at his face and sobbed as I
saw all the blood stain his teeth and coat his
skin and drench his clothes.

"Bad, huh?" He asked.

Dustin knelt on the other side of me and
sobbed as I held him.

"No. No, no, no, you're gonna be fine. Eddie,
you're going to be okay." I cry.

I moved hair away from his face as he choked
some more on blood.

"We just gotta get you to a hospital." Dustin
said as he tried lifting him up.

"Okay.." Eddie said, "I think I just...I think I just need a second, okay?" He told Dustin.

He looked at Dustin and smiled, then he looked to me and smiled again.

"I didn't run away this time, right?" He
managed out.

I sobbed and shook my head, "No, no you
didn't. You didn't run."

I saw the tears form in Eddie's eyes as I knew
he was in pain.

"Eddie, if only I hadn't went through.....if only I had tried harder-"

"Stop, princess...Y/n. Stop....you tried the best
you could and I'm p-proud of you...because
you're m-my girl...my girl..."

He tried his best to place his hand on my
stomach as he smiled wide.

"I love you...."

He looked to Dustin, "You're gonna have to
look after those little sheep for me, okay?"

"No, you're gonna do that yourself!" Dustin
sobbed.

"Nah, man. Say, 'I'm gonna look after them'.
Say it." Eddie choked.

"I'm.. gonna look after them." Dustin said
tearfully.

"Good." Eddie said with an even wider smile.

He looked back to me, "you're going to help
him, right?"

I nod and wiped tears away and sniffled,
"yes, baby...I am. Eddie, I love you so much. I love you more than anything, you were the best thing that happened to me......ever."

He nodded, "you're the best thing to ever
happen to me, too... if only I had stuck around
in freshman year and wasn't a weirdo, then you would've been mine since...maybe my wife."

I laughed and nodded, "yeah... yeah that would be awesome.

He took off his necklace with his guitar pick
and gave it to me. That's when he looked to
Dustin.

"Cause I'm actually gonna graduate." He
chuckled weakly, "I think it's my year,
Henderson. I think it's finally my year...I love
you, man."
