The next month was full of anxiety. Chris and his lawyer had started the process of filing for custody of the girls and if the judge passed it, they would have to send their lawyer to fight for custody. The couple felt fearfull most of the time, everytime the phone rang a horrible feeling went through their bodies, knowing it could have happened that Chris was approved as a capable guardian.

That, however, happened at the end of the month settling the court date to the trial for the first monday of the next month

The trial was a long process, the first two days of it the girls didn't have to be there, but it was finally the last day. The day the judge would decide who was going to be the girls' legal guardian

The morning of the day they had to go to court, the couple woke up as early as they could to try and make themselves look presentable after the rough night they had. Carina tried to cover her slightly puffy eyes while Maya tried to keep a straight face but knew it was not going to last long.

Afterwards, they had to wake up their daughters... well Emma because Luna was all ready awake. The nine-year-old couldn't sleep for more than a few hours, thinking about the possible scenarios in which the trial could end, remembering when her moms told her, her father wanted her

"... but I want to stay here" the girl said not being able to hold in the tears that were welling up in her eyes.

"I know bella and we are going to do everything we can to make that happen" the brunette said feeling her own eyes filling with tears

The kid released a sad sigh as she stood up and run to her room, followed by Ace close behind.

She didn't want to go with that man, she didn't know him, she didn't want to know him, she wanted to stay with her moms. Why couldn't that happen? Why couldn't they for once... just for once listen to her?

After a quick breakfast, the girls packed a few things they could get distracted with, said good-bye to Ace and left the house.

The car ride was weird. Emma was irritable due to the early awakening and that caused the girl to be grumpy all the way to the place. Also she knew something important was happening but she didn't fully understand it. Luna, however, knew exactly what could happen and she was scared. The system hadn't done anything to make the girl trust it, why should this time be different?

All the anxiety the girl was holding in finally came out against her sister, making the girl feel guilty immediately and although she tried to say sorry about how she talked to her, the already grumpy six-year-old wouldn't listen, now, also feeling hurt

"All rise for the honourable Judge Pearson"

All the presents stood up, exchanging glances with one and other. Carina and Maya were able to see Luna's dad for the first time and a strange feeling appeared on the pit of their stomachs. The blonde had to control every part of her body to not grab the two kids who waited outside and leave the place

"Everyone may be seated" Judge Pearson said as he took his seat leaving the room in complete silence "Good morning to everyone present. Calling the case of Christopher Jones against Carina DeLuca-Bishop and Maya DeLuca-Bishop" he said reading a file from his dais "Are both sides ready?"

"Ready for Carina and Maya DeLuca-Bishop" Luisa, their lawyer, said as she stood up

"Ready for Christopher Jones your honour" Chris' lawyer said as well

The judge nodded before adjusting in his seat and nodding towards the man's lawyer

"You may proceed" he said as the man gave him a nod, and stepped around the table
