Our girls (Marina)

Chapter 11

 "Do we have to go to school?" the little five-year-old said as she looked at Maya who was closing the girl's school bag. The brunette was finishing doing the older girl's hair while the blonde was getting the girls school bags ready and it felt oddly normal "Can't we just stay here?" she insisted 

"No bug, you need to go to school" she finally said looking at the little girl 

"Why?" the girl asked. The truth is she didn't like school that much, not only it was a place with a lot of people she didn't know, but also meant spending a lot of time without her sister

"Come here" the bonde said sitting on the sofa placing the girl on her lap "I know it can be a little scary" she said trying to comfort the kid "but I promise you is going to be fun" she said trying to make school sound exciting "You are going to go, learn a lot, make some new friends and then come back here okay?" Maya explained earning a nod from the little girl 

Meanwhile, Luna was sat at the table while Carina brushed her hair. She wasn't as nervous about school, she kind of liked it. It made her feel normal, even if it was just for a few hours "Carina?" the girl called out "How do we get back from school?" she asked. 

Luna remembered that in the last house, at the beggining when she went to school, she had to walk home. She remembers the first time Mr. Smith forgot to pick them up from school, they waited hours before the school called the man telling him to pick up the girls. After that, it started to happen all the time until the teachers started walking them home and eventually they started doing it alone. 

"What do you mean bella?" she asked not really getting what the girl meant 

"Um... do you... do you need us to walk back here?" she asked and both women looked at each other "We did that for a while last year" she whispered  

"No bambina" she said with a sigh "One of us will pick you and your sister up" she explained "you don't have to worry about that" she said trying to sound as normal as possible. She was angry, how could someone let a seven and a four year old at the time walk down the street alone, everyday "You are all set" the Italian said and the little girl stood up going to grab her bag 

"Thank you" she said smiling 

"Let's go girls" Maya said standing next to the door with Emma holding her hand. Luna walked towards her being followed by Carina and the four of them set off to school

When they arrived, the building was surrounded by several parents who, like them, said goodbye to their children. Maya and Carina knelt and Emma immediately hugged both women, she did not want them to leave but she knew that the sooner they did, the sooner she would be with them again. Luna was waiting a few steps from them, she did not know whether to say goodbye or not. After being with the women for a month, she felt much safer with them, but it was a strange feeling and she did not know exactly how to react to it. 

Emma was enjoying the last few minutes with Carina while Maya watched them smiling. She was about to get up when she felt a small body pressed against hers. The blonde looked at her wife with obvious shock on her face but she immediately hugged the little girl and couldn't help but smile. Luna hasn't had that kind of contact with her yet. The hug only lasted a few seconds until the little girl broke away to go hug Carina, who did her best to hug her without having to push the little one away

"Be good in school si?" the brunette said and both of them nodded 

"You'll pick us up right?" Luna asked a little insecure. If they forget she didn't know how to get back to the house on her own 

"We will" the blonde immediately said "don't worry" she said and the girl nodded "We will see you girls later" she stated as she watched the girls walk towards the building
