"Maya ... the phone" a still sleeping Carina said, rolling on the bed trying to get back to sleep. Maya smiled at the sight of her wife, Carina was definitely not a morning person. She had been up for some time now but didn't want to get up just yet. She loved this part of the day, when she could just lay with her wife and enjoy the morning. Although she didn't say it often, with their crazy jobs it was nice to have some time just for them and she liked that. After giving her a kiss on the shoulder, the blonde got up trying not to disturb the brunette, she grabbed the phone and left the room

"Hello?" she asked a little confused on why would anyone be calling at 7 a.m on a Sunday

"Hello Maya, this is Jennifer from the foster care system, are you available right now?" asked the social worker making Maya stop breathing for a second. There were a million thoughts running through her head at the same time. The last time she talked with the social worker was months ago, they were trying really hard not to lose hope but at this point she was the last person the firefighter thought it would call. Although she didn't want to get her hopes up, her head couldn't help but specifically think of one of the possible reasons why she was calling her "Hello? Maya? Are you there?" a voice snapped her out of her thoughts

"I'm here, sorry" she said quickly "I'm available now, It's everything okey?"

"Good. So, I was calling to inform you that we have a case that needs an emergency placement" the firefighter could feel her heart racing "Now if I am not wrong, the last time I spoke to you it was mentioned that you would prefer to host a baby or a small child, am I correct?" Maya was caught by surprise so she stayed a few minutes processing what she was hearing

"Yes that's right" ended up saying remembering the last meeting they had with the woman

"Well, although this case does not exactly match your preferences, we think that maybe you are the right ones for this one" Maya was lost for words not matching our preferences... what does that even mean she thought to herself "I know it seems rushed but we really need that emergency placement and we are running out of options"

"Can you tell me a little bit more about it?" she asked realizing she didn't really know anything about this case as she called it

"There's not much that I can say" she sigh "what I can tell you is that we have two girls, eight and five year old, sisters" now she gets it, the whole not matching your preferences thing "I know is a lot to take in as a first placement but they really need somewhere safe to stay" the blue-eyed-woman was tempted to say yes right away. They had been waiting for this for months, but she knew she wasn't alone in this process

"You understand I have to talk to my wife about it" she said thinking about what the Italian was going to say about it

"Yes, of course, I understand, please give me a call as soon as you can"

"I will call you" Maya said ending the call

Two girls... two, fostering two kids hadn't been one of the possibilities they'd talked about at least not for their first placement. As she entered the room she saw her wife already awake with a light smile with all her attention in a book. She couldn't help but stare realizing how effortlessly beautiful the Italian was, her hair fell over her shoulders as a the sun light made her way through the curtains. Not that she hadn't noticed before, but it was moments like this that made her feel really lucky. Carina looked up from her book when she felt someone staring at her and smiled when she found her wife looking at her leaning against the door frame

"You are back" she said placing her book on the night table and turning back to her wife. From the moment her wife left the room she couldn't go back to sleep. She did not like mornings, I mean when you are a doctor you learn that hours of sleep are rare and you can't give up any, but also the fact that she was a doctor meant that she wasn't a deep sleeper
