Chapter 29

"What do we got?" asked Amelia walking towards the policemen who entered the emergency room pushing a stretcher. Her shift was supposed to be over a couple hours ago but seeing how busy it was she decided to stay 

"Female" the policeman started "eight... maybe nine years old, possible concussion, has been unconscious all this time" he said and Amelia had to hold the gasp that wanted to come out when she saw who was laying in the stretcher

"Luna?" she said catching the policeman attention 

"You know her?" he asked receiving a nod as a response "was hit by a car near the West Seattle Bridge, a couple that saw the incident were the ones who called" he explained while one of the paramedics took the place of the policeman, and started to check the girl's reflexes "the driver left the car and run off as soon as the incident happened" he said with a sigh 

"Okay move her on my count, one, two, three" she said before moving the girl "Come on Luna, wake up" she said trying to wake up the girl "I want an chest X-ray and an ultrasound" she said wanting to make sure there was no internal bleeding she should be worrying about "Clear" she said and let out a sigh of relief when she saw there was no blood on the chest

"No blood on the belly" one of the interns said 

"Good let's take her to CT" the neurosurgeon said "oh, and page Dr. DeLuca" she said now to a resident who looked at her with cofussion written all over her face 

"Dr. DeLuca? Isn't she an OB, I don't think..." she started but was quickly cut off by Amelia 

"Page Dr. DeLuca now" she said a little more firmly as she left with the girl towards CT earning a quick nod from the resident

"Amelia?" Carina said when she spotted her friend's back. She was looking at one of the rooms "You paged? Where's the patient..." She started but quickly felt like all the air left her lungs as her heart stopped when she looked in the direction the other doctor was looking. There she was, a disoriented Luna looking everywhere. She kept her brave face on but the brunette could tell that the girl was scared and she looked like she was about to break. The girl looked so small in that bed "Luna?"

"She came here a while ago" Amelia started explaining "She was hit by a car" she said causing the Italian to immediately look at her "she's fine" she said making the brunette let out a breath she didn't know she was holding "she's a taugh one, we made a CT, an X-ray and an ultrasound " she explained as if it was just another patient "There's no bleeding... I do want to keep her here just in case but she should be good to go in a couple of hours" 

"Can I come in now?" Carina said not wanting to waste another minute without her baby

"Wait" she stopped the Italian "There's something else" she said and by the tone of her voice Carina realized she was not going to like what her friend had to say "As we were scanning for any fractures we found what it looked like semen on her legs" 

"No..." Carina whispered and everything stopped. Her ears were buzzing, and her vision became blurry. Her baby... she was supposed to be safe, they sent her to her father's house and he was going to keep her safe

"We sent her underwear and pants to lab to see if we can find anything" she started to explain "but we can't really do anything without the authorization of her legal guardian" Amelia explained while Carina could only curse in her mind at the judge who had determined that it was better for Luna to leave her home

"I'm not her legal guardian anymore..." the brunette said more to herself that to her friend "Call child-protective services, they will probably send a social worker to act as her legal guardian" she said trying to think on what to do "Can you call Maya?" Carina then asked, making Amelia nod. If someone needed to be there with her now was her wife
