Before a gynecological appointment, some women may try douching to eliminate unpleasant vaginal odor. This is not a good idea. Douching washes out natural vaginal flora, distorts Pap smear results, and increases the risk of inflammation.
Having a slight vaginal odor is absolutely normal, and you shouldn't try to get rid of it completely. Washing your vulva with warm water will do just fine. You can use a gentle intimate cleanser, but it's best to avoid harsh, and especially antibacterial, soaps.
