For some people, sexual intercourse may be followed by unpleasant symptoms such as itching, burning, and redness in the genital area. If these symptoms occur every time you have sex, this may indicate a fairly rare allergy to sperm.
The symptoms can be limited to the site of contact with the sperm, affecting the mucous membranes and skin, or generalized all over the body. These may include:
- Edema, itching, and burning of the skin and mucous membranes
- Redness and soreness in the genital area
- Difficulty breathing
- Dizziness, weakness, etc.
A sperm allergy may be hard to recognize because the symptoms are similar to those of vaginal infections. Only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
