The effect endometriosis has on fertility depends on the severity of the condition. With minimal to mild endometriosis, conception can occur without further treatment.
In the event of moderate to severe endometriosis, laparoscopy is likely to be prescribed. During this operation:
- Endometrial foci are excised (cut from the healthy tissue) or coagulated (burned).
- Adhesions are dissected.
- Endometrial costs are removed (if any).
- Tubal patency is checked.
If the surgery doesn't produce the desired outcome, it's still possible to conceive with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
