Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The sound is drilling a hole in my head. I open my eyes and behold me are a row of white then a row of lights. The pattern continues to cover the entire plain of what I believe is the ceiling. I feel my body again but with every muscle I test, my body responds with agony. I have a headache that is only getting worse by every rhythmical beep.

I try to get up. Quickly at first, then I feel a tug on my finger and I rise up with more caution.

I'm in a hospital room. The space is small and the only dividers are cheap, see-through curtains. A heart monitor is beeping at my head and a grey clip is oximeter to my finger. Other medical insturments but I don't have the time or energy to guess what they are for.

On the other side of the curtain, I hear people talking. Nurses, staff, visitors.

Someone comes through my curtain. By the way she dresses - long white coat and baggy, white pants - leads me to believe she is a nurse. According to my heart monitor, my heart rate increased a bit but falls back to normal after I realize the person isn't out to harm me.

"Sorry, to scare you." The nurse says. She checks on all the insturments then leaves without any other words though she does say something to a lonely shadow outside the curtain, "You can come in now." She says gentily.

The shadow nods then it holds onto the curtain and enters my domain.

"Are you alright?" The voice is sweet and caring. I open my eyes, not even realizing they were closed. Eldon is standing a foot away from my bed. His expression is guarded.

"Yeah." I croak.

"You sure?" He asks again.

"Uh huh." I look at myself in disbelief as I see the multiple wounds I have that are tied up with layers of guaze.

"I'm so so so sorry Emily. I didn't know you were coming then all of a sudden, you were on the ground. I didn't know if you were alive or not, I mean, your breathing was hesitant and your heartbeat was unstable. I didn't know what to do. This is the closest hospital from the-" He pauses, "from my car."

I try to revisit the rough encounter Eldon is refering to.

"I got hit by a car." Eldon winces at my word choice but he nods and agrees.

"And. And you saved me." I gasp.

Eldon perks up a bit then puts his guarded expression back on.

"What time is it?" I ask.

"Um," He looks at his wrist watch, "Around noon-ish."

"How long have I been unconcious for?" It's my turn to wince at my words now. I hate the feeling of being so susceptible.

"Well, give or take...twelve hours. When I was driving you here, you were falling in and out of conciousness. Started to talk a bunch of nonsense too. Something about you killing someone..."

I jerk up. I went with Eldon! Someone is going to die. I killed someone. Again.

"No!" I try to talk some more but my voice fails to keep going. It cracks and I taste blood trickle down my throat.

"Calm down, Emily." Eldon walks up to my bed side and gentily presses me back down. "Go back to sleep. You'll be okay."

I can't help but follow his instructions. My mind turns off and I slip into oblivion.
