chapter 16: accident

"Look, I can go, it's fine." I told Victoria.

"No. It's my house and right now I prefer your company over Damiano's." She said glaring at him.

"What a great best friend you are." He said angrily at her before stopping in front of me. He towered over me, and he looked down at me. I could see the anger in his eyes. Newsflash, buddy, I'm angry too. Join the club. He just looked me up and down. "I hate you."

"I hate you more." I said as I smiled sarcastically at him and he left.

"I thought you guys were getting better... what happened?" Vic asked me.

"This shouldn't be strange for you guys. We hate each other. Sometimes we're just more friendly, but we're not friends." I said rolling my eyes as I walked towards the couch.

"Yeah... that does make sense, actually." Vic said while Sage just narrowed her eyes at me. She knew something happened, and she wasn't going to rest until she found out what it was.

About an hour later, Ethan and Thomas showed up.

"Aria!!" Thomas said excitedly as he saw me.

"Thomas!" I laughed as the boy hugged me.

"I feel like I haven't seen in forever." He exclaimed.

"It's literally been a week." I laughed at his exaggeration.

"Still way too long." He said shaking his head and I laughed once again.

"Aria!" Ethan said after greeting Sage.

"Ethan!" I said as he pulled me in for a hug.

"Can you not disappear again?" He asked.

"Let's see what the future holds." I said smiling at him.

"You're totally Kiara but a bit darker. If that makes sense." Ethan said as we were watching The Lion King 2.

"Dude, yes! I loved Kiara growing up, and not gonna lie, I had a crush on Kovu." I said smiling at the memory.

"Me too!" Vic said and we high-fived.

"You had a crush on a cartoon?" Thomas asked us weirdly.

"Honey, she's got a whole list." Sage said amused.

"Oh man, where do I start. Let's see... we have Simba, Kovu, Sonic, Nick Wilde, Prince Eric, Flynn Rider or Eugene Fitzherbert, Jeremy from Phinneas and Ferb, Adrien Agreste, Thomas O'Malley, Robin Hood from Disney, Tramp, Diego from Ice Age, Aladdin, Mamoru from Sailor Moon, Peter Pan... I probably have more but those are all I can remember." I said casually.

"I don't know who's weirder." Ethan said wide eyed.

"The fact that Nick Wilde and Adrien Agreste are recent scares me." Ethan said raising an eyebrow at me.

"Okay, but like Nick Wilde is a whole deal. The personality plus the looks. Sue me." I said giving them a challenging look.

"Looks?! HE'S A FOX!" Thomas yelled shocked.

"A VERY ATTRACTIVE FOX!" I yelled back.

"I give up." He huffed.

"Good." I said patting his shoulder.

"What about Adrien Agreste?" Vic asked.

"I like him as Chat Noir. There's some... spice to him." I said amused.

"I- never mind. I'm sone trying to understand." Ethan said shaking his head.

"Are you going to tell me that you didn't have a crush on Lola Bunny?" I asked them, raising an eyebrow.

"Ok, she got you there." Sage said shrugging her shoulders.

"No..." Thomas said but we all knew he was lying.

"Liar!" I said before throwing a pillow at him.

This movement started a pillow fight that lasted longer that it should've.

As we were plastered along Vic's living room, trying to steady our racing heartbeats, Thomas's phone starts ringing.

"I don't have this number." He said looking at his phone.

"Pick up!" Vic said and he did.

"Si, è lo stesso." He said after a few seconds. [Yes, it's me.] "Che? Che fine ha fatto Damiano? Sta bene?" He asked worriedly. [What? What happened to Damiano? Is he okay?]

As soon as we heard Damiano's name we all looked at each other worriedly.

"Ok... sì, stiamo andando lì." Thomas said before hanging up. He looked up at us and took a deep breath. [Okay... yeah, we're on our way there.]

"What happened to Damiano?" Vic asked worriedly.

"He... he got in a motto accident. He's in the hospital right now." Thomas said on the verge of tears.

I froze immediately. I don't know why, but I felt a tug in my heart. It felt like the room was spinning. It couldn't be real, it just couldn't... What if he's not okay? What if he doesn't make it?

My mind was full of What if's running wild. And to think that the last thing I told him was I hate you more.

"Aria, did you hear me? Let's go!" Vic said grabbing my arm, pulling me from the ground.

"Ciao! Siamo qui per vedere Damiano David. Mi hai chiamato prima dicendo che era qui." Thomas said as we hurried to the reception. [Hi! We're here to see Damiano David. You called me saying he was here.]

"Ciao si. È nella stanza 204, sta riposando in questo momento. Avrai un dottore pronto a parlarti." The receptionist said as we hurried to the room. [Hello, yes. He's in the room 204, he's resting right now. You'll have a doctor ready to talk to you.]

We got to the room 204 and from the glass we could see Damiano sleeping inside. Thomas was talking to the doctor as we were all looking at Damiano. He was alive and breathing, thank God. He had a broken arm, a sprained knee, fractured ribs and had scratches all over.

It hurt me seeing him that way.

The time went by and Damiano was waking up. Thomas, Ethan and Vic were the first ones to get in. A couple of minutes later they came out.

"Out so soon?" Sage asked them.

"He... uh... he kept calling for Aria." Ethan said looking at me which made my eyes went wide.

"What?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows.

"Yeah, he kept calling for you, so we thought it would be better if you went in first." Vic said slightly amused.

I looked at Sage and she gave a reassuring smile while nodding her head at me. I walked slowly towards the door. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
