"and so, i told her if she didn't give me the ten dollars she owes me, i won't give her back the mascara i borrowed for prom. and she called me crazy! but, like, i'm right, right? holding her mascara hostage until i get my money?"
y/n asked as she sat in the front seat of stiles' jeep,
watching as she drove with as much concentration as he could muster.
"no, you have a point. those ten dollars are very important."
"make your jokes,"
she teased,
poking his shoulder with her index finger.
"you won't be laughing when i can't take us out to dinner because i'm ten dollars short."
"oh no. how are we ever going to survive?"
"see? now you're getting it."
the two of them fell into laughter that filled the air of the car,
along with the soft hum of the radio.
she reached her hand over to play with his newly grown out hair,
but instead found her hand slick with the sweat against his forehead.
"oh, stiles! gross!"
she laughed,
wiping it onto his shirt.
"you're sweating like a whore in church."
she then turned his air conditioning up to full,
watching it blow his hair back.
"are you feeling okay?"
she then asked,
her voice stripped of any animation.
he nodded and wiped away the remaining beads of sweat away with the back of his hand.
"yeah, fine. i...i, uh, just need to pull over for a moment."
before y/n could respond,
he jerked the car to the side and pulled it to a halt.
she furrowed her eyebrows together and ran her hands down his back for comfort.
he rested his head in his heads,
trying to steady his breathing.
suddenly,
he began coughing roughly;
y/n was beginning to grow worried he'd cough up blood soon.
"babe, are you okay? here. drink this,"
she advised,
handing him her styrofoam cup from the restaurant they'd just left.
he shoved his away and jumped out of the car,
still coughing and heaving.
stiles began making his way towards the wooded area,
but collapsed before he could do so.
she jumped out and headed right for him,
worrying that he'd get run over before he could regain consciousness.
"stiles!"
she yelled,
shaking his body to try and wake him up.
"stiles! babe! w-wake up!"
her voice was on the edge of hysteria;
her heart was racing,
causing her body to ache with fear.
"shit...stiles!"
his eyes then shot open,
and he began heaving for the cold nights air surrounding them.
relief flooded her,
but she still felt a sense of worry for her boyfriend.
"god, stiles...i thought you died! are you okay?!"
he grabbed onto her hand and placed it to his chest,
which he often did in times of need,
and began breathing steadily.
"you can't get rid of me that easily."
he hesitantly kissed her hand to try and deflect her worry,
but she narrowed her eyes to try and see through his white lie.
there was something off;
she could see it in the set of his darkening eyes,
dulling skin,
absent smile.
y/n even realize his temper had seemed to become shortened.
he'd practically tore her head off earlier after she accidentally spilled her drink on the table.
he apologized nonstop after,
but she still found it worrying now that they remained face to face in a moment of distress.
"are you sure?"
"god, y/n, yes. i said i'm fine,"
he sighed,
standing to his feet and pulling her along.
"don't be a dick about it,"
she spat,
turning on her feet to trudge back to the car.
but before she could reach it,
she felt an impact against the base of her skull,
and everything went black.
void stiles now stood behind her with a sick grin,
cracking his neck in response to the tightness in his body.
"oh, but don't you know?"
he whispered darkly to an unconscious y/n,
his lips brushing her ear as he did.
"that's my specialty."
he laughed threateningly to himself and piled her in the back of the jeep,
driving with a sick grin to his lips.

when y/n came to,
her head was throbbing,
blood caked her skin,
and she was confined to the room she was in.
she tried to move,
but quickly realized she was chained tight with mountain ash circled around her.
whoever kidnapped her had no intentions of letting her leave or escape,
that much was clear.
"about time. i was getting bored."
y/n directed her attention to the voice and felt chills corrupt her body at the sight.
it was stiles,
except it wasn't him in the slightest.
sure,
they shared the same stature and pointed nose,
but the darkness around his eyes didn't belong to stiles nor did the evilness looming inside.
"what are-"
"no, i'm talking. you'll sit and listen or else i'll make this quick for both of us and kill you."
y/n swallowed her retort and forced herself to calm down,
even though she could feel the racing in her heart which would induce her transformation.
she could feel a dull throb in her canines now that she was trapped.
"i've returned with only one thing in mind. in order to achieve this, i need to rid of the mccall pack. you inept children are standing in my way. so, i've decided to either kill all of them or stiles. regardless, people will die. the question is, are you willing to sacrifice their lives for stiles? or stiles life for theirs?"
"you're seriously asking me to choose?"
"precisely."
y/n let out a pant of fear then swallowed the bile rising inside of her throat.
"you can't....you can't do that! you need stiles to live!"
"he's merely a host!"
"they'll kill you!"
void stiles grabbed her throat with a tight grip and squeezed hard enough for black dots to cover her vision.
"i'm a thousand years old! you can't kill me!"
y/n felt her body become engulfed in ice from both his threat and the slipping of consciousness.
until he let up.
she then gasped for air and felt herself slump against the wall behind her.
"stiles,"
she breathed out in a cry,
"i know you're there."
"shut up."
"please...f-fight. i know you can."
"it's useless."
"you've got to fight it, stiles, please!"
she begged.
she quickly realized that in order for stiles to surface,
he'd have to remember the life he led.
"remember...remember the day we painted my ceiling bright yellow to brighten my mood? you-you said yellow was a happy color and that...that i wouldn't be sad anymore if i woke up and saw yellow. you even did research and bought too many gallons of it!"
"shut up!"
"then we ended up throwing paint on one another, chasing each other until our clothes were stained yellow, remember? you...you were right, it made me so happy!"
void stiles jumped from his seat and kicked it over in a fit of rage,
trying to shut y/n up,
but she only continued.
"remember our first time together? you were so nervous and-and you held my hand the entire time. stiles, remember how beautiful it was? everything was so perfect. or-or when you were bedridden from the flu and i came by-"
"shut up!"
stiles yelled,
his voice nearly shattering y/n's eardrums.
"i came by everyday before and after school, bringing you your work, medicine, food. i even brought you the new release of that comic you loved! stiles!"
she begged in a sob,
feeling her body grow limp from both the fear and pain of losing her lover.
void stiles covered his ears and tried to pace around the room to ignore her,
but she only spoke louder.
"...remember when we talked for hours about me getting the bite and how long we held one another? you told me that no matter what, even if i couldn't see you for a few days, that you would never stop loving or supporting me. that you would be there when i could finally control myself because nothing could stop you from loving me. god, stiles, please!"
void stiles glared at her and headed for her,
sure to harm her,
until she began yelling,
"think about the picture of us you keep in your dashboard! us-us at prom! you in your tux, looking so handsome, your tie matching the color of my dress! we had so much fun that night! that was the first time we'd ever said 'i love you.' i know you remember, stiles!"
void stiles then fell to the ground in agony and let out a yell.
"think of the picture of me you have tacked against your wall! me-me sitting in your jersey, sitting around all those textbooks and paperwork because we had a test the next day! remember how late it was when we finally finished because we kept laughing and getting distracted with one another? please, stiles, i know you're there! i know you remember!"
void stiles then let out one last chilling scream and collapsed.
stiles, himself, then surfaced and took in his surroundings,
becoming horrified at his love chained up before him.
he climbed to his feet and dispersed of the ash then slide the chains off of her.
"i'm so sorry, y/n. i don't know what happened. i'm so-"
y/n fell into his arms as soon as she was loose,
squeezing him tight enough to feel the beating of his heart against her own chest.
"i thought i lost you,"
she admitted through a soft cry.
stiles kissed her temple and closed his eyes.
"i could hear you...i heard everything and remembered it all...you'll never lose me, y/n. okay? never."
she nodded and kissed his cheek,
then met him for a kiss that was wet from the both of their tears,
though it only made them laugh.
they soon rushed out of the place together and headed for safety.

from that day on,
anytime stiles felt an inkling of void rising within,
y/n would remind them of their best, funniest, most loving, and greatest memories from their years of being both friends and lovers.
it was enough to get rid of void stiles until the day he was expelled entirely,
leaving behind the sweet brown eyed boy she'd fallen for from the start.
then,
they were able to create better, sweeter memories without the worries of anything evil lying beneath.
reminding one another of their memories became a bit of a habit,
and they would drive themselves hoarse bringing up old times they spent with one another.
it was grounding enough for the both of them and filled them with the warmest ardor;
until their last breaths.
