liam was lying on his back,
staring at the ceiling of mason's room,
with the weight of a textbook against his chest.
to put it simply,
liam's life had become morbidly boring.
"dude, come on. this test is tomorrow."
liam turned his head to see mason sitting on the bed,
legs folded,
and a pencil behind his ear.
liam couldn't help but chuckle.
"i'm bored."
"entertain yourself with the knowledge of the crucible."
liam rolled his eyes playfully then sat up,
closing his book and shoving it back in his bag.
"aren't you over this? it's like we wake up, go to school, go home, study, play video games, sleep, repeat."
"well...you forgot lacrosse. and-and we need to eat, so we do that, too."
"yeah, yeah, but you get my point."
"yeah...sounds pretty lame when you put it like that."
liam threw his hands up with a laugh.
"because it is!"
"well...we're almost out of school. summers, like, two days away."
"we need something to make this summer interesting."
as the words left his lips,
a deafening bass throbbed through the walls,
following along with it was loud lyrics.
"who is that?"
liam asked,
looking to mason with wide eyes.
"oh...uh, n-nothing. my mom, maybe?"
"dude. your mom? you're an awful liar."
liam stood to his feet and began heading towards the sound of the music,
the roaring of it intensifying with each new step.
"liam!"
"is this your music? kind of catchy. i'm surprised."
"liam, don't go-"
before mason could stop him,
liam opened the door a bit to peek inside.
there sat a girl on the edge of the bed,
staring at her swinging feet.
she made eye contact with liam,
her lips spreading into a smile,
and sending a thrill of shivers down his spine.
"well, if it isn't liam dunbar."
liam blushed furiously then closed the door quickly,
giving his best friend a deathly glare.
"i didn't want to freak you out!"
"you could have told me-"
the door opened,
making liam's sentence cut short as he turned to face y/n.
the girl he had been in love with since he understood the beating of his heart,
the girl that conjured many feelings inside of him that he couldn't quite name,
but felt them all the same,
the girl who returned after disappearing for five years.
no calls,
no texts,
no letters,
no emails.
"what's going on?"
she asked with a lean onto the door.
liam was stunned at her beauty.
she had matured into her best features,
and created some new that made his heart soar at the sight of her.
she smiled a perfect smile and made liam flush.
"nothing. just-just wanted to say your music is, uh, nice."
"nice? that's a first. thank you though,"
she teased with a laugh.
"so...you're back in town?"
"so it seems."
"come on, liam, let's go-"
liam hid his left hand behind his back and urged for mason to go away.
"for good?"
he continued.
y/n nodded then said,
"yeah. that's the plan."
music was pouring from her room,
the floor beneath him vibrating with the rhythm of it.
"nice, nice. it was nice to see you."
"yeah, you too. come by sometime and we can do something."
"we?"
he asked a little eagerly,
wondering if this was the date he'd been waiting all his life for.
y/n's lips stretched into another smile as she nodded.
"yeah. you know, you, me, and mason."
"oh...we. okay, y-yeah. sounds good."
"alright, liam. i'll see you around."
she leaned in,
making liam tense with surprise,
all while her natural aroma settled into his lungs.
her softened lips placed a kiss to his right cheek,
and then another to his left cheek.
when she closed the door,
liam remained frozen in place from shock.
his cheeks were humming from being beneath such precious and red lips.
"don't feel special,"
mason said while placing a hand to liam's shoulder.
"she was in france for five years. that's custom."
despite mason's words,
liam walked back to the room with a body full of exhilarating nerves.
"she should we should hang,"
liam repeated as he took a seat back onto the floor.
"i know. i was there,"
mason sighed before saying,
"are you sure you can even, you know, be around her?"
"why couldn't i be?"
"too much...passion, you turn all werewolf."
liam shrugged it off and crossed his arms.
"i've got it under control."
"are you ever going to tell her?"
liam looked to mason with a grave look then slowly shook his head.
"not unless her life depends on it."
***
"so come on!"
"fine,"
mason finally agreed after an hour of convincing.
liam jumped to his feet with a wide smile then rushed to y/n's room,
standing idly by as mason knocked.
"hey,"
she said when she opened her door,
full of smiles and beautiful energy.
"are you busy?"
"not at all. what's up?"
"uh, liam and i were just about to go meet up with friends from school. wanna go?"
y/n shrugged her shoulders then gave a look that read carelessness.
"yeah, sure."
liam smiled at her then walked back into the room,
giving her time to get ready,
where he then gave mason a shove.
"friends from school?! that wasn't the plan!"
"i don't wanna be a third wheel!"
liam sighed then gave mason a pat on his back.
"fine. i'm willing to compromise."
"oh, yeah, what a great compromise,"
mason said with a tone full of sarcasm.
liam snickered then felt himself become riled with nerves at the events of today.
his heel continued to bounce against the floor in anticipation,
letting his mind flood with the images of him and
y/n walking side by side and spending the entirety of the day together.
he made a promise to himself that he'd make it the best day in beacon hills for her.
"ready?"
y/n asked as she poked her head in the bedroom.
liam felt a wave of ease fall upon him at the sight of her,
somehow more beautiful than the last time he saw her.
"yeah. let's go,"
he spoke through his dazed tongue,
waiting for mason to walk alongside him.
when they all began to pile into the car,
mason and liam found themselves quietly fighting for the front seat.
liam held his hand to the door handle and pushed mason,
whispering,
"you're embarrassing me in front of her!"
mason shoved liam back and tried to open the door again.
"can't embarrass you in front of someone who barely notices your existence!"
y/n rolled the passenger seat window down and laughed.
"what are you two doing? get in!"
mason gained the upper hand on a distracted liam,
pushing him out of the way and hurrying to climb into the front seat.
liam groaned in defeat then got in the back,
finding the reflection of a giggling y/n in the rear view mirror.
he couldn't help but laugh along with her.
"so, where to first?"
"school."
y/n turned to mason with knitted eyebrows.
"like, the high school?"
"yes, y/n."
y/n snickered at mason's reply then began driving,
leaving liam to remained in an admiring gaze from behind her.
it was surreal to see her before him,
drenched in grace with maturity lining in her palms.
it felt as if no time had passed between them;
liam's heart still stuttered at the mention of her name,
his pulse raced at the faint sight of her,
and his limbs went weak with enamor from her natural aroma.
it was rather humorous to liam that he could find himself so in love with the girl despite their few interactions.
"liam, i heard you're on the lacrosse team! how is it so far?"
liam sat up straight in his seat and made eye contact with y/n through the rear view mirror for a split second.
he blushed immediately beneath her gaze and at the mention of his name against her tongue.
"p-pretty good, yeah. busy, you know? work outs, practices. all that."
"yeah, i get it. i'll have to come to your next game."
"oh! y-yeah! for sure,"
he answered in his best suave tone.
y/n smiled and nodded in agreement as she parked the car the best to her ability,
signaling their arrival.
the walk towards the front of the school was quick but awkward.
liam walked with his hands balled into his front pockets,
wracking his mind with things to say to y/n.
but no matter how hard he tried,
the shyness of his lips always failed him.
"y/n, meet brett, nolan, and corey."
"enchante,"
she began then hurried to correct herself,
"sorry...nice to meet you."
y/n smiled rather awkwardly in greeting then looked to liam for whatever reassurance she could find.
liam found it a bit surprising that she was easily shy,
but gave her a half smile nonetheless.
"she's just home from france, right?"
liam asked,
turning his attention to the group to stray it away from y/n.
"oh, yeah. four years later."
"really? awesome...how was it?"
nolan asked with too big of a grin for liam's liking.
"really lovely. definitely a place worth visiting."
"oh, yeah. show them the picture of you throwing up drunk on the-"
"shut up, mason,"
y/n warned through clenched teeth.
snickers broke out through the group,
but y/n replied with a laugh of her own.
"legal drinking age is sixteen there...got a bit carried away my first night,"
she explained rather timidly.
liam watched as she turned to him from time to time absentmindedly,
seeking familiarity in him,
which brought a small blush to his cheeks.
even through the friends that surround him,
he knew he'd always find comfort in y/n, too.
the group walked off and began heading into town with boisterous laughter and constant teasing.
liam was riled with bliss at y/n's smile;
there would never be anything better than seeing it.

the sun was down now,
and the group had exhausted themselves of any further social interaction.
liam, mason, and y/n were heading back to the car when they heard the words,
"hey! you three!"
ring throughout the air.
y/n turned around to see a boy heading towards them,
a smirk painted onto his lips that looked rather sickening.
"oh, god,"
mason groaned.
liam found himself standing in front of y/n to keep her distanced from theo and whatever he had planned.
"who are you?"
theo asked,
pointing his head towards y/n.
"go away, theo."
"what? i'm just asking. are you new?"
"she's-"
theo put his hand up to prevent liam from answering further,
which only angered liam more.
"i'm asking her. so, are you new?"
"technically, yes."
"what's your name?"
"you're awfully nosey. didn't anyone teach you to mind your own?"
theo chuckled then nodded.
"sarcastic, i see."
"really? why, i couldn't tell,"
she mused with a small grin.
"liam....does your friend know just exactly what we are?"
liam swallowed hard.
"we aren't anything. you're only a nuisance."
"oh!"
theo laughed then clapped his hands together in dramatics.
"so she doesn't? how interesting...it'd be a shame if i were the one to, i don't know, introduce her?"
"mason,"
liam began in a small whisper,
"get out of here."
mason took a step back and grabbed y/n's wrist,
beginning to head towards the car again before a loud snarl interrupted them.
y/n was then pushed to the ground from the impact of theo,
landing onto her shoulder and surely bruising it.
when she looked up,
preparing for the bite from some rabid animal,
she instead found herself faced with a shifted theo and liam.
liam was dragging theo away from her by his hands,
then threw him with such strength that it made her gasp.
"what the hell?"
she whispered through a dry mouth,
trying to back away from the scene with her aching arm.
the two lunged at one another again,
theo trying to gain a hold of y/n,
but liam continued to prevent him from doing so.
y/n caught a glimpse of liam's now golden eyes,
along with the fur spreading against his face and snarled teeth that were too large to be true.
y/n jumped to her feet with a loud cry in surprise,
then felt mason grab her and pull her away.
"what the hell?!"
she began,
pacing back and forth with her heart beating in her ribcage.
"y/n, get in the car-"
"what the hell is happening?! werewolves?! oh my god, i'm going insane. i-i must have hit my head-"
she stopped rambling when liam stumbled up to her.
he seemed to be himself again,
only now embarrassment and shame were pooling in his eyes.
all of the confusion slipped from her mind as she met with him and could only feel immense gratitude.
no matter what she thought she'd seen,
liam had protected her.
y/n threw her arms around him for a tightening hug that made his body thrum with vigor.
his hot skin against her chilled was the perfect balance;
something he often found that followed y/n.
"thank you,"
she whispered into his chest,
placing a kiss to his cheek.
before she could pull away,
liam gently held the nape of her neck to keep her there with him.
they stared into one another's eyes,
enamor fueling their racing hearts while they prepared for their next move.
"i should have told you sooner."
"i only got in this morning, liam. the...the werewolf thing, i'm assuming, could have waited."
"no....not about that. about this."
he placed the palm of her hand against his chest,
where the beating of his heart seemed to pick up from beneath her touch.
"i can't go another minute pretending, y/n. i've been chasing after you for years now and it's time you know."
"oh, liam,"
she began in a breath,
her fingers raking through his hair.
"i knew all along."
the space between them closed to reveal an indulging kiss that made their cores tighten in pure stimulation.
y/n's lips were something of an aphrodisiac to liam.
and it was then he realized y/n had been kissed by god himself;
the only explanation for her ethereal existence.
the two of them kissed with years of pent up love,
and nothing would ever be sweeter.
what an interesting summer it was becoming,
and it was only the beginning.
