SWEARING
VIOLENCEI woke up with Lira by my side. Admir kindly let me stay in a room beside his but as soon as I heard that he wasn't stirring in his room, I left and found Lira. That was always the plan.
I felt her hand twitch on my chest and she yawned. "That was the best sleep I've had in a long while." She smiled as she pulled her head off my shoulder. "I'm glad." I replied. Sleep was all we actually did and I was surprised but not at all bothered.
She blinked her dark eyes open and I watched her run a finger in a circle on my chest. "Are you always this warm?" She asked innocently. I smiled. "That's why I sleep with nothing on."
"Then what's this then?" She smirked as her hand slowly went down my body and stopped at my boxers. Her fingers teased the top of the fabric. My heart seemed to have almost slowed down entirely. Perhaps it was racing, I could hardly tell.
She herself wore only a T-shirt over her underwear to protect her modesty. I could feel her smooth legs against my own and I fought the urge to tear her clothes off. I wanted to take my time with her and I think she wanted to also.
Lira looked up at me. "What's the time?" She asked. I looked across at my watch that I left on the nightstand. "Almost ten." I replied.
I felt her hand run back up my chest and she got out of the bed. I watched her walk over to the bathroom. "Let's have some breakfast and then I may go and see my father...what do you think?" She asked me. "Breakfast definitely. Seeing your father, if you wish to." I replied as I sat upright, my head leaned against the headboard.
She smiled before disappearing into the bathroom. My phone rang and I picked it up from the nightstand. "Hello Raf. Everything all right?" I asked him. "Is everything all right? I should be asking you that. I thought you were fucking dead. What happened?" He asked. I then realised I didn't even have the decency to let him know. I simply forgot.
"Everything's perfect. I should have called you but I got a little distracted." I said as my eyes lingered on Lira's legs. I could see her red panties slightly. Fuck. Maybe she left the door open on purpose.
"So you made up?" Raf asked. I could hear Mara in the background. "Yes we did. I'll be back soon." I replied omitting some minor details. "Well I'm taking Mara back to Italy. I'll be there." Raf said. I could hear Mara whispering about when she would get to meet Lira.
"Would you mind taking care of business for a while?" I asked Raf knowing that he would. He agreed and I put the phone down but only after talking to Mara briefly.
By now Lira had showered and dressed. I had been brought a new suit by Sergio who remained behind with me. I got dressed and met Lira downstairs. The maids and guards stared at me, not even bothering to hide their gazes, not that I cared. I'm sure it was a unusual circumstance for them, a strange man just arrived in the Quesari home and I'm staying for breakfast. I noticed that Sergio wasn't too happy to stand with the Albanian guards.
"Good morning Vicenzo. I hope you slept well." Admir greeted as I found my way into the kitchen. I smiled as I walked over to the kitchen island and took a seat. Admir was dressed in a suit as usual while Lira wore a dark ensemble.
"Very well thank you. Your hospitality is much appreciated." I smiled at him. Admir looked between Lira and I. He knew. Shit.
"I thought you were going to learn from me, not fuck my sister behind my back." Admir stated casually. He sipped his coffee. Lira coughed as she put down her mug. "For your information, I did not fuck her." I replied.
The maid set down a mug of coffee for me and a plate of food. I thanked her. "I'm right here. Oh my God, you are so embarrassing." Lira muttered as she brushed back her hair.
Admir chuckled. "You've never been bothered before about me embarrassing you. You must really like Vicenzo." His eyes shone with a hint of mischief.
"And I'm also right here." I chuckled lightly. Admir looked at me, his face softer than usual. His phone beeped several times but he ignored it. "I have to leave now....before I go, lesson number one. If anyone disrespects you or slanders you in any way. Don't let them take another breath..it doesn't matter who they are. Do you understand? That's how fear is created." Admir said as he stood up to leave.
He tied the button of his suit jacket and called his guard. He looked at Lira and nodded. I'm sure he wanted to say something about their father but he didn't. He turned and left the house.
"What was that about?" Lira asked. "Our little arrangement." I replied. She chuckled and took a bite of her croissant. "You paint?" I asked her.
She smiled gently before sighing. "I used to. But now..I just find it tedious. I lack the inspiration." She sipped her coffee and looked around the lightly painted kitchen.
"Maybe I can help you find the inspiration you need. You are talented. My uncle would definitely pay for your paintings." I smiled genuinely. My uncle Mariano buys random shit all the time and he spends fortunes on paintings.
"Perhaps." She smiled gently. "They call Admir Don, does that not bother you?" I asked her curious to figure her out.
"It does not bother me because I don't give a shit. It's Admir's Mafia." She shrugged. I chuckled and rubbed my forehead. "What do they call you?"
"Shefi (boss)." She stood up and rolled her neck. "All right let's go and see him." She headed out and I followed after her. She wanted closure and I don't blame her. She needed it.
It took only twenty five minutes to reach the hospital in which that man lay in. In which he was dying in. At first Lira was apprehensive to enter but she found the courage that I knew she possessed and walked in. We found his room after a nurse pointed us in the right direction.
As we entered the room, I saw three men in the room on separate beds. Any one of them could be her father. They lay attached to wires on their beds, no one at their sides. The room was bright and smelt of disinfectant.
I felt Lira by my side. Her hand brushed mine, I am sure her heart was racing but her face was cold and expressionless. She looked at one of the men and I knew it was her father. He was old and sickly looking. His head was bald with a few messy grey strands left. His face was deeply wrinkled, with his cheeks sagging. His face didn't look kind. Not one bit.
"Father." Lira spoke as we neared his bedside. It was clear with how she spoke. She didn't know him anymore. His bed was the furthest from the door and closest to the window. Sergio stood to one side. I stood beside Lira but I did not want to interrupt.
The man looked at Lira and smiled which made him look a little friendlier. "My daughter, you came. All this time I was sure you wouldn't come." Her father spoke, his voice was deep and raspy. "Is Admir not with you?" He asked.
"Just why would he come? Why would he come? You ruined it father. You left us." Lira retorted with anger lacing every word. She looked at the man as if he were a stranger.
"I didn't leave you my trëndafil (rose). Your brother threw me out. He tossed me to the streets as if I was the very dirt on his shoes." Her father replied. He struggled to sit upright. Lira scoffed. "I knew you would blame him. You were the one who was drunk. All the fucking time. What was he supposed to do? You were bringing us down, bringing the Mafia down. Baba would be ashamed."
Her father gulped and coughed before looking my way. "Who is this you bring before me?" He asked. "You asked me here to take pity on you. To save your life even if it's deemed not worthy. You don't get to ask who he is." Lira shot back. I held a cold look at the man.
"You know all this time I haven't seen you since I was ten. You've not asked me how I am. How was my life. You don't know anything about me...why did you do it? Why did you drink so much. Did you love drinking more than me?" Lira growled, she was breathing heavily.
"I love you my trëndafil-" He father spoke unfazed by her reaction. "Don't call me that!" Lira cut him off. The other men in the room stared at us as if we were the best entertainment they've seen all week. "You lost the right to call me that when Admir threw you out. Any man would have grown the balls needed to come back sober but you never did. I cried over you...mother left too. Do you know how much heartache I carried?" Lira growled. Her voice seemed to be on the verge of cracking. I still did not interfere.
"You beat mother. You beat her mercilessly. What wrong did she ever do to you?" Lira asked. She rubbed her temples.
"What wrong? She had an affair! Behind my back. What kind of a woman was she!?" Her father raised his voice.
Lira stepped forward. "What kind of a woman!? The kind who stood by your side even when you beat her black and blue. The kind who consoled you when baba died. You drove her away with your endless drinking. And no fucking woman deserves to be beaten. You sit here acting like some sort of saint when we all know you were fucking women left and right."
"Listen here girl, your mother was a whore. She deserved everything she got." Her father growled back. Lira chuckled darkly and threw her hands in the air before looking back at her father.
"And what about me? Did I deserve it? At ten years old I looked at you like you were a king and what happened? You punched me." Lira growled, her chest fell and rose heavily. Fucking hell! That bastard lay a hand on his own daughter. Shit now I'm definitely killing the man.
"I was drunk daughter, I did not know what I was doing." Her father replied pathetically. "I wet my bed for weeks. A man who I once thought had the world was now a monster. I thought I did something wrong for you to hit me...Admir saved me, he raised me. I'm not giving you my liver." Lira growled through clenched teeth.
"Is that why you came? To laugh at my misery? I thought you cared. Please. Please help me. I want to fix it." Her father coughed into a handkerchief. His pathetic begging did him no favours.
"I don't care. I had no parents to teach me to care. It's too late. You see this man here, he's who I care about and he's the one that will end your fucking pathetic life." Lira gestured to me. I saw her fathers eyes land on me with fury. I would gladly kill her father without blinking an eye.
"I have nothing more to say to you. But you were once a good father and I loved you so, Enzo make it quick." Lira spoke. Her word was final and she left the room without looking back. Her father did call after her but she never replied.
He looked at me with disgust and unknown rage. It was safe to say the man possibly hated me. I shrugged off my jacket and laid it onto a chair. I smirked at the man as I rolled up my shirt sleeves. "You wish to know who I am. I'll tell you because even on your death bed you will shake in fear. You will know unimaginable pain before you draw your final breath." I said calmly. I pulled the sheet of fabric around the mans bed until no one could see him but I.
"What has it got to do with you. How I treat my daughter is my business." The man spat as if he wasn't afraid. He will be soon. "I am her boyfriend and perhaps you've heard of me, Vicenzo Ferrari Hernandez...so it has everything to do with me." I growled as I watched him recognise who I was, maybe not my face but my name. I reached for the pillow behind his head and pulled it out, uncaring for what I was about to do.
