BLOOD/DEATH/GOREI awoke to silence. What a beautiful sound.
My parents had already left for their little trip. I would have loved to have spent more time with them but I am sure I will see them again soon. I also gave Raphael a job. He wouldn't be home for a few hours.
I stretched and sat up, my body feeling fully rested. I ruffled my messy hair and yawned. The daylight flooded into my room, basking me in the warm rays. I sure as shit had a lie in. I was going to enjoy this day to myself. Suddenly, the door to my room was flung open and Mara burst in. Raphael and her really do have no manners. Oh fuck, I do the same.
"You're finally awake!" She grinned as she walked over to me. I furrowed my brows at her and she whistled at me. "Check you out Enzo." She giggled. I was in nothing but my boxers, my tan skin glistened in the light. A sight Mara has seen plenty of fucking times.
"What do you want Mara?" I asked, my voice husky from just waking up. "Me, I want to go shopping and lunch." She smiled as she looked around my large bedroom. "Take a guard. Take Sergio." I waved my hand, trying to get rid of her.
"No but I want to go with you. Get dressed!" She ordered as she left my room. Oh fuck. Now I guess I have plans. I changed into a T-shirt, opting for casual wear. I also shaved so my face was clean cut but no doubt it wouldn't last.
I stepped into the living room and saw Mara giggling into her phone. She was staying for a few days until she had to return home; to Italy. I enjoyed her presence but she does test me at times. She knows I won't say no to her.
I headed for the front door and nudged my head at her. She understood the signal and followed me out, ending her call. "Breakfast first." I said as I pulled out the keys to my car. I always had a car here whenever I came. It's lucky my mom hasn't destroyed it with her track record. It was a sleek grey Ferrari. Simple but powerful.
"All right breakfast first." Mara agreed as she took a seat in the car. I also took a seat, my back hitting the cool leather seat. I gripped the steering wheel and turned the engine on. I turned my head and looked behind me as I backed out of the garage.
"You should shave more often Enzo." Mara said quietly. I looked into her eyes and smiled. "Don't Enzo." She threatened. I turned the car straight and drove off. I drove the speed limit much to Mara's content. I would have loved to have floored it. She practically pissed herself the last time I did.
We soon stopped at a little restaurant. One that I owned. I held the car door open for Mara as she stepped out. She wore washed out jeans and a simple T-shirt. I was glad she took some time out from her job. It seemed very stressful, whereas, my job was less stressful. If someone pissed me off, I didn't think twice about removing them off the face of the earth and with them the stress would magically disappear.
I didn't bring Sergio with me or any of the other guards for I didn't need too. It was highly unlikely someone would threaten my life especially in my own territory.
We both entered the restaurant and I greeted the manager. I sat down at my favourite table, away from the windows and everyone else. "I'll have my usual." I said to the server who came to take our order. Mara hummed as her eyes scanned the menu intently. "I think I'll have the avocado on toast with an extra egg. Make sure they're soft and the toast crispy but not too crispy. Extra avocado too. And I'll have some orange juice too. Make it two glasses." She looked up at the young server who looked completely bewildered. He walked off no doubt to try to relay this information to the chef.
"What the fuck is not too crispy toast?" I shook my head at Mara. She smiled and planted her head into her hands atop the table. "You know when it's crispy but not too crispy." She said as if she made perfect sense. "Right." I nodded slowly and looked across the room to see a table of three women discreetly pointing at me.
I ignored them and soon enough our food was brought out to us. I sipped on a coffee and ate some bacon, eggs and sausages. Mara dropped some avocado onto her shirt. "You have avocado on your shirt." I pointed out and she licked her lips and wiped it off.
"Where did you send Raf to?" She asked. I looked at her and put down my cup. "To deal with some business." I replied. "You know you can just tell me." She exasperated. I rarely kept things from her but certain things she did not need to know. "If you insist. I sent him to sort out a little problem. You see, a man has disobeyed my rules. So Raf is most likely going to sever his carotid artery or his jugular." I spoke slowly. Mara looked at me with disgust.
"It takes about fifteen seconds to bleed out if you sever a carotid artery deep enough. I am sure Raf has no problem with that." I added. "I really need to learn to shut my mouth because suddenly, my breakfast doesn't look so good." Mara shook her head as she looked down at her plate.
"I thought that by being a doctor you've seen it all." I tilted my head at her. She chuckled. "Not everything Enzo. I have done some rectal exams if you want that doing?" She smirked.
"As tempting as that offer is, I have to politely decline...I'm sure Raf wouldn't mind you sticking your finger up his ass." I chuckled making Mara laugh. When we were done laughing she sipped her drink.
"Those girls haven't taken their eyes off you." She whispered as she flicked her eyes to their table. I hummed gently, not looking up. "Why don't you just try?" She asked. I knew exactly what she meant.
"I don't want the bother." I shrugged my shoulders. She shook her head. "Oh but Enzo...maybe you'll find a girl at the ball!" She chirped. I didn't have the time and effort to deal with women. Most of them only wanted my money or to kill me. They also wouldn't last or cope with what I did.
"The fucking ludicrous ball." I scoffed as I crossed my arms. There was a stupid ass ball coming up. Many of the Mafia leaders, drug dealers and murderers would be attending. The ball was just an excuse for everyone to form alliances or to piss people off. I hated attending, it was always a miserable affair.
"Yes Enzo. I think you'll find the one." She winked before sipping her juice once more. She always thought she could read the future, how that was possible, I did not know. "I doubt it." I mumbled. Every single ball I've ever been to, there wasn't a woman that caught my eye. "Oh shut up. I've heard that this year the Russians are going to be at the ball as well as some other newbies. They have a sister, did you know?" She looked at me, her eyes shining brightly.
"No I didn't know they had a sister but I'd rather die than be associated with them." I scowled. Mara chuckled. "Good. From what I heard she's a soft touch. Her brothers didn't let her train so she is most definitely not the girl for you."
"Why don't you come this year?" I asked her. "No. No. Absolutely not. The last time I went, a man touched my ass." She waved her hands in front of me and frowned. "But did I not break his arms?" I smirked.
"You did but honestly Enzo. No. Nothing can change my mind besides, Emily and I are going on holiday." She smiled, her eyes sparkled in the light. I liked Emily despite the fact that I haven't met her as of yet, she made Mara happy and that made me happy for her.
"Fine. I guess I'll just be babysitting Raf." I rubbed my forehead. She stood up and I followed after her. The girls at the table giggled as I walked past. Mara interlinked her arm with mines which ceased their giggling. I looked down at her and chuckled.
We spent the next two hours shopping. I was fucking bored out of my mind. We entered yet another jewellery store and Mara was busy looking at all the jewellery. I took this opportunity and slipped out. Pulling out a cigarette, I lit it and held it to my lips. I leaned against the wall.
My phone rang and I answered it. "Raf. Is it done?" I spoke. "All done. What do you want me to do now?" He asked. "Roosevelt Avenue." I stated. "Oh god fuck, she's taken you shopping hasn't she?" He chuckled unable to hide his amusement. "Just get the fuck here now." I chuckled and turned off my phone.
I inhaled and blew out some smoke, watching it disappear into the air. I turned to my left, feeling a presence. Mara. Oh shit. I stared at her and she stared at the cigarette in my fingers. I held it to my lips again and inhaled. It would be a shame to waste it after all. Mara held her hands on her hips as she judged me profusely.
"Find anything you liked?" I asked her with a coy smile. "Yes..but it's quite expensive." She sighed as she bit the inside of her cheek. I dropped my cigarette to the ground and stepped on it.
"What do you like?" I asked her as we stood inside the store again. There was an abundant array of jewellery in front of us. She smiled and shook her head. "It's fine Enzo. I don't need it." She looked at me and dropped her gaze to the floor. "If you don't tell me right now, I'll fucking buy everything." I narrowed my eyes.
She pointed to a beautiful bracelet behind the glass. It was sterling silver with intricate jems laced into the band. "We would like to purchase this." I said as I held out my black card for the employee, uncaring for the price.
"It's a thousand dollars Enzo, I'll pay you back." Mara smiled as she was handed the small bag which contained the bracelet. "You owe me nothing." I said as we walked out of the store. She knew I would never accept her money and I, well I had plenty.
I noticed a black car pull up, it's windows were tinted and the driver stepped out. "Raf." I called out. He turned to face me and headed our way. "What did you do this time Mara? Make him try on dresses and have a picnic." He sniggered as he took in the surroundings.
"Very funny. Such a fucking funny man." I chuckled as l punched his shoulder gently. He laughed as he stumbled back. "One question. How did you kill him?" I asked him.
He looked at me and scratched his cheek. "I shot him." He said casually. "I knew it! You owe me Enzo." Mara grinned. I rubbed my face and groaned. "I was so sure you would have sliced his fucking neck open." I grumbled.
"Shit. What did you bet this time?" Raf chuckled at my misery. "He has to go on a date." Mara smiled. "With who?" Raf asked with his arms crossed. Did it fucking matter? I didn't have the time.
"With someone of my choosing." Mara said as she walked towards my car. I looked at Raf and sighed. "She'll kill me one day." I shook my head. "Me too." Raf chuckled and patted my back. "Good luck for your date, you'll need it. You're fucking depressing at times." He said as he headed for his car. "I'm not fucking depressing. The company is just boring." I said as I entered my car.
However, the company at the ball would be much more interesting. I would be able to meet with some likeminded people and most definitely mock the shit out of them.
