Summary: Y/N is the first woman to enter the NHL, that should have been exciting in itself, but then she meets Mitch

Requested: yes

Nothing about being a hockey player was easy. Add on the fact that Y/N was the first female hockey player of the NHL, and things were bound to get messy. No one believed in her when she was first drafted by the Toronto Maple leafs. Hell, Y/N wasn't even sure that she believed in herself.

But when she met a starry eyed player by the name of Mitch, everything changed.

He was the light in her dark days and he helped her show the rest of the team that she could be trusted. It was hard at first, many of her teammates were skeptical as to whether or not she could keep up with them.

That was until Y/N started blowing past them on breakaways in practice, and scoring hat tricks in their seasons. It was amazing. Y/N never truly understood exactly how much fun hockey could be. She had played for years and she adored the sport, but the fire she felt inside when she was skating across the ice at the scotiabank arena was everything.

Over time her friendships on the team grew, she became a part of the family that the leafs had created. More and more she was being invited to BBQs, to drinks on the weekends and to weddings. It made Y/N happy and she was relieved that her team finally saw her as more than the new kid on the block.

Sadly, the media didn't see it that way. They labeled her as awful things. Many of which were not worth repeating. But though it all, Y/N's teammates were there to protect her- Auston was always backing her up when people claimed that her skills weren't at the level that the NHL required. Mitch was always defending her when media accused her of sleeping with people on the team, and their Captain was always jumping to fight for her on the ice.

Things were changing for the better and Y/N couldn't be any happier. It was one of those nights where the entire team was hanging out at Angelo's bar on the west end of Toronto. They had won their most recent game which called for celebration.

Sitting at the bar, Y/N had a lopsided grin on her face, she tilted her head as she stared up at the television screen. Highlights on the leafs most recent game were playing. "That was a wicked goal." A voice spoke up from next to her. Turning her head, Y/N caught Mitch's gaze. His long brown hair flowed behind his ears and there was a grin on his lips.

The woman next to him laughed softly. "And that was a beautiful assist." She raised her glass and clinked it against his. She couldn't help but glance at his arms. Mitch was wearing a dark navy blue coloured sweater that made his biceps look lovely. Y/N couldn't help but pout at the fact that his tattoos were hidden, but the weather in Ontario was far too cold for anything less.

Her own figure was donned in a white long sleeved sweater, matched with dark blue jeans. It was a classic .Y/N had her hair pinned back out of her face. Practice had been hard that morning, followed by a hard earned win. So while she felt like letting her hair down, that wasn't literally.

"We make quite the team." Mitch smiled over his shoulder at her, he had been catching her eye more often which was an issue. Cause Y/N wasn't even sure if Mitch saw her that way, and if he did like her that way, then things were going to get complicated with the media and the owners and coaches of the team.

A flash of heat fanned itself across Y/N's cheeks. "Yeah... We do." She admitted. She was never this nervous around mitch, but as they had been getting closer lately, she found herself wanting to impress him. A familiar tune filtered through the speakers at the end of the bar.

"I love this song!" Both Y/N and Mitch exclaimed at the same time. They caught each other's eyes and laughed softly. Before Y/N could ask, Mitch was standing up and offering her his hand. "What do you say?"
